1. Speech Therapy for 4 Year Old Annunciation Issues?

Hello all,I just walked out of my twins' 4 year
wellness check up with a Speech Therapy Center (San
Francisco Hearing and Speech Center) number in hand.As
both my husband and I work full time with no family
support, the idea of carving out time to get this
evaluation done seems daunting, not to mention the
potential of having to take her to speech therapy twice
a week. Any of you who had similar experiences or are
going through it out there - would love your advice or
sympathy. :) My specific questions:1. Is it really
necessary? She turned 4 in May. I've seen kids who had
trouble with pronunciations but eventually grew out of
it.. how do you decide as a parent to intervene? 2. Is
this Center a reputable one? Do you have any therapists
or places you would recommend otherwise? The efficient
operation of calling the parent in a few hours upon
doctor's referral can be seen as great service but also
seen as kind of overly business driven and trying to
get patients. If you tell me "Just go and do it" I will
and feel much at ease. Maybe that's all I need. But
thought I'd ask as a confused parent with a bit of
fear.

I highly recommend actually reading Dr Ferber's "solve
your Child's Sleep Problems" as opposed to winging it
using CIO blog artices, which are incomplete. basically
at 4-6 mo, they shouldn't need to eat mid- night and
feeding them kicks their digestive system in gear, when
it should be resting. It becomes a vicious cycle and
they start waking up more and more if you keep giving
in. He walks you thru how to deal and it take 2-3
sleepless nights to wean them off middle of the night
feelings, but it's well worth it. If you can get
grandparents or others to come over and take a shift,
that would be huge. (Or a night Doula). I waited till
about 7 mo and was killing myself once I realized I
could have been sleeping hru the night 2-3 months
earlier.Good luck.

I really feel for you. It sounds like life feels a bit
hellish for your right now.Marc Weissbluth - Healthy
Sleep Habits, Healthy Child writes about the Extinction
Method (which is basically letting them cry) but
advocates variations for when you can't quite handle
that (MOdified Extinction where you put a max time on
the crying before you go in). He has a twin version of
this book as well which advocates leaving them in the
same room.I started this yesterday with my 7 mo b/g
twins and am amazed about the difference it has made in
one day for both day time sleeps and night time.
However mine have not had a feed during the night for
quite some time (since they were about 4.5 months). They
did use pacifiers and one of the things that I did
yesterday is went cold turkey on that and put them down
without and let them cry it out. I was surprised that
it worked OK. The other thing with mine is that they
are also going through transition out of being swaddled
at the same time.So not sure if yours are swaddled or
use pacifiers but that could also be another element to
consider with your sleep training.Good luck - I am sure
that this phase will pass soon and you have done the
right thing reaching out for support. I don't know if
my strategy is going to ultimately work yet but I am
sure there are others here who have been through it
completely and will give you some great advice.

All great advice. One thing to watch out for is that
this is also the age teething begins. My son who is
very sensitive to pain (unlike my daughter) would wake
up and have a hard time falling asleep while sleep
training. I feel for you! Infantn motrin helped a lot
in my son's case and was so glad my pediatrician
recommended. Lasts 6 hours!I also separated the kids
and put my daughter in the den as she got the sleep
training after 3 days of CIO and didn't wake up in the
middle of the night. My son on the other hand took
several weeks.. and reminders after each illness. It
was so tough!

I delivered vaginally at UCSF at 37.5 weeks after being
induced. Both were head down. They kept telling me it
could take up to 4 days for the induction to work but
it took about 15 hours. Almost had to do a c-section
for baby B because her heart rate dropped, but
determination from mom plus foreceps got her out nine
minutes after her sister. My doctor said about half of
her patients with twins deliver vaginally.

I delivered both my twins vaginally at 37+5. I went
into labor naturally, and had a fairly short labor,
about 12 hours before A was born. B had been somewhat
transverse, but turned head down after A was born.

Thank you! Got a double-sided easel with crayons and
chalk, some over-sized legos, and a pop-up "tunnel."
So far, so good. I'll work on some trains/cars next,
and I now have a toy kitchen on my "wish list" for days
with more space :). Will try cards and bags. Thanks
again!

Until my girls were about 10 months old, I carted
around my EZ-2-Nurse pillow if i went out. They were
small, and the pillow brought them to the right height
for nursing, and allowed me to tandem nurse. It was
far easier to bring the pillow with me when I went out
than to try to nurse them separately when they were so
used to nursing tandem. The EZ-2-Nurse has a modesty
cover built in, but I seldom used it. My twins hated
being covered up. I figured a flash of boob was
preferable to two screaming, hungry babies. I did try
a regular size Brest Friend once, which is about half
the size of my pillow, and it just not work for me
while nursing tandem; their heads kept falling off!
