Dr. Fujimoto - but really they all work as a team over
there. Dr. Cedar's is also very good. Dr. Rosen
(although I have heard he can rub people the wrong way,
but I really thought he was great).

I also had a great experience at UCSF. Like already
mentioned all the doctors work as a team. I was
treated primarily by Dr. Rosen and had a great
experience. Claudia In a message dated 7/25/2013

6. Lactation Consultants

Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant that
specializes in twins? We will be delivering at CPMC -
most likely by c-section and we just want to make sure
that that doesn't interfere with BFing. Hoping to have
a lactation consultant that can visit in the hospital
visit and then follow up with home visits.

I've work with Beth Alber at Newborn Connections, who
was excellent, but does not make home visits. I also
recently had a visit from Katie Howser, who's also a
postpartum doula and I was really happy with her. She
visited my home and was here for 2 hours to watch the
feeding and my pump session. She had a ton of knowledge
on newborns in general, breastfeeding obviously but
also gave me lots of tips to increase my supply. She
brought a scale so I could see how much my babies were
getting, I know she's worked with other twins before
too. She was affordable from the limited research I
did. http://katiehowser.com/

How severe is the allergy? i.e., do you just have to
avoid egg dishes, like omelets or scrambled eggs? Or do
you have to avoid bread, muffins, etc. - anything
cooked with eggs?My kids seem fine, but I personally
have had some sensitivity to eggs most of my life. I'm
fine with eggs cooked into food, but straight eggs
generally give me an upset stomach. It's never been a
problem except that it REALLY limits my options at
brunch! Some infant nutritional guidelines say to wait
until kids are 1 to start eggs, because some kids will
be sensitive (I think just to the whites? I can't
remember, though). I had a friend who gave her daughter
eggs at around 9 months and they caused a reaction. So
she waited a few months, tried again after her daughter
turned 1, and the eggs weren't a problem anymore. So
maybe give it a few months and try again. And if you
just have to avoid egg dishes, it's not that big a
deal. My kids don't really like eggs, and never have,
so they're not a big staple of our diet. If you have to
avoid baked food and any other dishes cooked with eggs,
that will be more challenging. And if it seems severe,
definitely consult with your pediatrician, or a
pediatric nutritionist.

We had one of our twin boys allergy tested at a young
age as well. He was shown to be sensitive not only to
eggs, but also nuts, dairy and fish. The pediatric
allergist advised us to keep away from all of those
things until he was 5 or 6 as well. He explained that
if you keep trying to introduce those items
periodically, the body continues to register a reaction
to them. If you wait until 5 or 6, the body may forget
it reacted to it...thus "outgrowing" the
sensitivity/allergy. My son seemed to have a sense
about what foods his body might react to so when he
turned 5, I would offer pizza with the cheese still on
top, to see if wanted it. The answer was generally no,
but one day he said he wanted the cheese left on. Low
and behold, there was no reaction. Now, he can eat all
of the above without any time of reaction. As Jessica
mentioned, I would look to see if there's a reaction to
products that might contain egg (like certain pastas or
bread), or if it's just the egg itself. If it's the
latter, believe it or not, you'll find substitutes for
eggs. I didn't think we would manage without the
normal kid staples like pizza, mac n cheese, and pizza,
but we made the sacrifice and it worked out for us.Good
luck!
