I'm looking to hire a babysitter for my 14 month old
twins. We're looking for someone a couple evenings a
week plus some weekends. Ideally they'd be able to do
meals but I'm mainly looking for someone who will watch
and play with/read to them. Some organized,
age-appropriate arts and crafts activities would be a
bonus, but I'm ok with balancing that with free
play. What is the going rate for a sitter like this?
I'll likely be posting this job with the child
development center at SF State, but if you could
recommend other forums or actual sitters, I'd be really
appreciative. Thanks!!

The travel closet (travelcloset@sfpom.org) has Go Go
Babyz wheelies you can borrow. You'll need zip ties or
some straps with buckles, which REI carries. I'd
recommend doing a couple dry runs at home. HTH.

Your description sounds a lot like how our boys were at
4 months. We read the "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy
Twins" book for ideas and looked for cues when they
were ready to sleep through the night. Our Ped told us
we could drop the nighttime feeding around the same
age/size as your kids but we kept it going for a while
because they weren't eating so great and their meals
were small. When we finally dropped the 2 a.m.
feeding, they had small meals (2 oz) for a couple of
nights and then we only soothed them. It seemed like
it only took 4-5 nights before they just kept on
sleeping. I don't think they were even hungry - they
were just used to the routine. For us, things really
improved after 4 months. Hope it gets easier for you
very soon and that more sleep is around the corner.
BTW, you'll need it because in a few months they'll be
crawling! Yikes!
