Our wonderful nanny, Rachida Orr, will be looking for a
new family starting in January 2015. She has been with
our family for the past 1.5 years and cared for our
identical twin sons since they were 6 months old. We
could not have asked for a bettercaregiver for our
children during such a critical time in their
earlydevelopment. They will be starting full-time
school in the new year and will be well-prepared,
thanks to Rachida.Rachida is a native French speaker
who grew up in Paris, is wonderful with children, and a
joy to have as part of our lives. Our sons are half
French, and per our request Rachida spoke solely in
French with them. She has substantial experiencewith
twins and singletons, as she been an au pair, nanny,
and pre-school teacher assistant. We never had any
doubt about her abilities, from soothing crying babies
to disciplining rambunctious toddlers in a firm but
gentle manner. Rachida is very respectful and direct,
down to earth, and consistently communicates. She is
also a parent herself, raising her child in Noe Valley.
As two working parents with variableschedules, we could
not have survived without her reliability and
flexibility with her hours. We are frequently
approached by neighbors and other parents who have
interacted with Rachida and our twins while on walks or
at the playground-- all have glowing remarks. We are
constantly amazed at her ability to teach our little
boys how to sit still quietly, eat in public places
without making a mess, and play independently. Rachida
reads and sings to the boys, takes them to museums and
parks, and teaches them. Our kids absolutely adore her.
They are very happy, relaxed, and well-behaved with
her.Rachida is looking to work Monday through Thursday
up to 35 hours per week, with a maximum of 2 children.
She prefers to work in the Noe Valley/Bernal/Mission
area.Her contact information:Rachida
OrrRachida21@att.netHome 415-285-5020We highly
recommend Rachida and the whole family will miss her
tremendously. Should you have an further questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely,Cecily

nataliasha2004 - 11/9/2014 11:11 am
Can anyone spare an hour today at 12:30? We were a bit
short-staffed for yesterday's Sale, and could use a
hand unloading a van at our storage locker in Potrero
Hill. Even 1/2 an hour from a few folks would be a
HUGE help and very much appreciated! Please contact me
at Nataliasha2004 [at] yahoo.com, and I'll send you the
address, etc.THANKS in advance!!

Marie, I took UCSF classes, usual birth classes and the
twin class, and can't tell they were so very useful to
me. Their materials are not bad, though. I have all the
books they gave me and would be happy to give them to
you.

I took the twin class offered by CPMC, but was more
about what to do post-birth. I also found the
breastfeeding twins class (run at UCSF) helpful.

hi marie, i took my birth class with rachel yellin. it
was a brilliant course. rachel is smart, knowledgable,
and generous. her course was so informative. can't
highly recommend it enough. that said, it's very
vaginal birth focused (and home birth focused). i had a
hospital operating room vaginal birth at 39 weeks with
my girls; they came 10 minutes apart. there were two
moms in my class carrying twins, probably 8 moms
carrying singletons. here's her
link:http://www.rachelyellin.com/childbirth-preparation/
her november class starts on 11/11. if interested, see
if she has a spot and go! it was money well spent. four
sessions.also, twin specific birth stuff - i bought and
watched this video repeatedly. i needed to see this. to
visualize twin birth. it's a brilliant teaching video
used in hospitals.

you can find a copy of the video: Psalm & Zoya; The
Unassisted Homebirth of Our Twins - it's brilliant to
watch. amazing to see what the body can do. i had no
intention of a home birth with twins, or of not being
in hospital; however, loved this video to bear witness
to the strength of women in labor. i found it very
empowering. mind-blowing.this video just always makes
me smile. daring to believe it's possible to have a
vaginal birth with twins!

info is helpful. best, jen

I think having a trial period is a good idea. As you
mentioned, it allows you to see if the nanny is a good
fit. It also allows you to set the ground rules and
make sure he or she is caring for your kids how you
want. I had a 2 week trial period with my nanny. I
initially noticed that she had my twins on different
schedules. I was so used to my routine and schedule it
didn't even occur to me that someone might not do that.
I was able to catch that early on and make changes.
We loved our nanny (still do as a babysitter) so it
wasn't a deal breaker or anything, but I thought the
trial period was helpful. It was also during these 2
weeks that I was able to get out and do my own thing.
My friend had to drag me out the first time but it got
easier every time after. It was amazing to be able to
have days off finally. I kind of wish I had done it
sooner or had her work part time first.Regarding a
60-something year old woman caring for 6 month old
twins, I suppose it depends on the health and energy of
the woman. It might be doable but knowing how
exhausted I was as a 30-something year old, I would
worry it might be too much. Perhaps a trial period for
this would also be advisable so you and she both know
what she's getting into. My mother is 60-something and
I think we quickly realized there was no way she could
be on her own with them. There were also other issues.
We've always clashed and that did not change after my
twins were born. Free childcare is amazing when it
works but for me paying a nanny was less stressful and
money well spent.Lastly, my nanny didn't have prior
experience with multiples but she worked out great.
She did run her own daycare at one point so I knew she
could handle something like 3 to 6 kids on her own;
heck, 2 was probably a breeze. I'm glad I didn't rule
her out because she didn't have multiples expeirence
specifically. Of course, it doesn't hurt.Hope this
helps and good luck!
