Hello, everyone~We are currently in need of new folks
in the following positions, in order of urgency (please
inquire if you have questions about any):* President*
VP/Secretary (could be 2 people or 1)* Travel Closet &
Snow Clothes Closet Keeper (could be 1 person or 2 -
but since both are seasonal, 1 could handle both
easily.)* Philanthropy Chair* NCaMoTC Rep ("Northern CA
Mothers of Twins Clubs" Representative)Most of these
things take an average of less than an hour/week, but
they vary. All are done on YOUR time, w/ the exception
of occasional group meetings (tho the infrequent POM
meetings tend to be scheduled so as to include the
largest number of committee members possible.)THANK YOU
all for reading, and for considering what YOU can do.
(There are benefits to volunteering besides good karma
- discounts, in some cases, networking opps, great new
friendships and connections, work skills for your
resume, letters of reference...) Please let me know
if you'd like details on any of these. All positions
are handled by volunteer members of the Club like
yourselves, and it's a GREAT way to "give back/ pay it

I just delivered twins in May and also went through the
same question. At that time Mission Bay wasn't quite up
and ready and I felt the CPMC rooms were nicer. I had
no complications during my pregnancy and was expected
to deliver close to final date so the ICN was not a big
consideration. I found Dr Laurie Green at CPMC
(academically trained at Harvard, Stanford and UCSF)
and loved her. She actually was a referral from my UCSF
doctor. I think either are good, but feeling that I
wasn't at high risk, I didn't want to be in an academic
environment and why I chose CPMC. However, normally I
always recommend academic centers over private
practice. I think either are great, especially Dr Green
who is very honest, intelligent and is always focused
on your care.

In the end, you should do what you are most comfortable
with. For what it is worth, I had all of my care and
my delivery at UCSF and was thrilled with the care from
all the prenatal stuff to my own hospitalization to the
delivery and subsequent care of my girls in the ICN for
20 days following their birth. Somethings to keep in
mind:* As a PP noted, they have a really highly rated
ICN. One of the top 5 in the country. My FIL is a
pediatric infectious disease specialist at an academic
institution in MA and all of his colleagues and
students were so impressed his granddaughters were
getting care at UCSF. My girls just had to "feed and
grow" (they were born at 34 weeks 2 days, so they were
essentially just little), but had they had more
challenges, I would have been confident we would have
been okay because we were at UCSF. * My girls were born
this February (2015), about 6 days after the new
hospital opened (and I checked in literally the day
after the hospital opened with pre-eclampsia). The
facilities were amazing -- from the large and
technologically equipped antepartum rooms (you can
skype from the TV, order food online etc.), to the
roomy L&D rooms (there are huge whirl pool tubs that
fit you and your partner -- I was hooked up to
magnesium for the pre-e so couldn't use, but they
looked great), and the ICN (Intensive Care Nursery) is
beautiful. My girls had a room to themselves, there
was a fold out couch so you could room in, and they had
a view of what is now a beautiful park (was under
construction then, so my 3 YO was thrilled to stare at
all of the construction equipment). 3 of the 4 ICN
units were open for business at the time were were
there (again Feb 2015) and the 4th unit hadn't been
opened only because there wasn't yet a need for it.
The whole place feels almost more like a hotel. My 3
year old loved visits to the hospital to visit me/his
sisters, and still talks about it as a fun place to go.
* My girls were mono-di so I was high risk, and was
always going to have to deliver "early" (36 weeks at
latest). As such, I felt more comfortable having
access to the UCSF ICN as chances were good we would
need it.* If your Baby B is breech, then UCSF will
absolutely consider/facilitate a vaginal birth for you
(if you want). They have expertise in what I
understand is now a dying art (delivering breech
babies). My baby B was breach. I delivered both my
girls vaginally. That being said, I think if I had
insisted on a c-section, they probably would have
accommodated that too. (I have an elder so wanted what
I thought would be the easiest recovery, but above that
wanted to do what was best for my baby).* An academic
institution isn't for everyone -- you do need to be
comfortable with residents and med students being
present for procedures. But there is always an
attending and you can always insist on the attending
doing everything. But again, that is a personal
preference comfort level thing. I was seen by almost
all the MFM/Perinatologists so happy to give input on
anyone if you have any particular q's. Liked them all,
but saw Melissa Rosenstein most often. She had a very
practical, friendly, and calming demeanor that I liked
a lot. Everyone else was also great. I don't have any
practical experience with CPMC, but I know many people
who have been very happy with their birth experiences
there.Congrats on your twins!

My b/g twins were delivered at CPMC by Dr. Laurie
Green. I had moved from India in January while I was 5
months pregnant and knew NOTHING about how things
worked here. We just got plain lucky and managed to get
an appointment with her. On our second meeting, she did
an internal check up and told me that I'd deliver at 38
weeks. Honestly, I dint believe I could go that far.
Then she said my uterus was a rock star :-p And truth
be told, I had a scheduled C-section the day I began my
38th week! She's great when she has to deliver. I was
in and out of the OT in 40 mins and the stitches healed
smoothly.

How much space do you need? I own a shop on Presidio
Ave at California and would be happy to make it
available on Saturday/Sunday. It's about 800 sq feet,
full of inventory, but it's definitely possible to move
things around.

Yes, I own a shop (Bath Sense) where I sell some
baby/kids stuff- California Baby, Milk Barn, BooBoo
BedHead PJs. With our twinkies on the way I plan to
expand my selection, would definitely like to list my
business and offer discounts to any SFPOM members who
come by to shop.

Hi I'm Lori and I've been home with identical twin
girls for about a month now. They were in the NICU for
about 6 weeks at CPMC prior to coming home. My husband
returned to work today and I will return to work
part-time the first week of December. Very eager to
connect with another mom who has been down this road!
