Hi Team,I am 28 weeks with identical boys, one with
significant growth restriction. We've just been told to
be prepared for delivery between 29 and 33 weeks and
with that to expect an extended NICU stay.Just trying
to get things together and looking for any helpful tips
for surviving early days in the NICU, particularly with
a three year old at home who also needs care. Also, any
info about experienced night nurses who might become
available in the next monthThanks So Much.

Hi there. We are parents to happy and very healthy twin
girls who were born at 32 weeks. One girl was quite a
bit smaller than the other and born at a little over
2lbs and her sister a little over 4 lbs. They both
spent about 4 weeks in the NICU at UCSF. At first, we
were really scared- it's all so overwhelming with so
much of our expectations about what the pregnancy and
first days/months with the girls would be like dashed.
But honestly, we learned so much from the nurses in the
NICU. It was like a crash course in parenting from
experts that are there to answer any and all questions
24/7. In retrospect, the experience while far from
ideal was positive in a lot of ways. You'll probably
get lots of advice and replies on this topic but if you
need/want to correspond more I'm happy to share more
about our experience.

lesdeux - 8/26/2015 1:00 pm
Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each
month, from 1-2:30pm. Meetings are held at Calvary
Presbyterian Church at 2515 Fillmore Street (between
Pacific and Jackson). Enter the church to the right of
the main entrance with all the stairs, which has a ramp
that will lead to double doors. Enter and you'll see an
elevator straight ahead. Take the elevator to the 3rd
floor, exit and walk all the way back past the
bathrooms to the Nursery.Parking: There is 2-hour
street parking on neighboring streets and metered
parking on Fillmore (hit or miss, but I can usually
find a spot within 10 minutes). There is a parking
garage (CPMC garage) on Clay between Webster and
Buchanan in case you can't find parking elsewhere. It's
a few blocks away but it's an option. We welcome all
expecting and new parents with multiples under one year
of age. Come alone, with your partner, and/or your
babies. You may also bring the helping hands of
friends, nannies, and grandparents. Should you run out
of helping hands we have many more ready to help out.
The New and Expectant Parents Group is an ideal place
to gain invaluable twin parenting advice, an
opportunity to ask many questions, to see how other
parents cope with more than one baby, a place to laugh,
to cry, to rejoice, and to share proud and scary
moments in our step-by-step journey into parenthood of
multiples. You must be a member to attend regularly.
Prospective members may attend one meeting before
joining. You can contact the moderator at

I had almost identical situation to cld2011 but
delivered at 31 weeks with mono-di twins at UCSF 2
weeks after they opened. (For my first pregnancy, I
delivered my son at CPMC with Laurie Green at 35 weeks
- loved it there but wanted UCSF for this higher risk
pregnancy since I suspected I would deliver early.) I
had Melissa Rosenstein for prenatal care and delivered
with Kirsten Salmeen with an attempted vaginal with
breech extraction of baby B but converted to C section
(baby B stuck her foot in front of baby A's head). My
girls spent 6 and 12 weeks in the ICN and I loved the
care there. The nurses and MD/NP care teams were all
wonderful, and I thought they balanced evidence-based
medicine with common sense very well. I also have a lot
of follow up there and have loved their new clinic
facilities. I would highly recommend UCSF!
