<p style="margin: 0;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission last week approved construction firm Swinerton to build the first portion of India Basin Waterfront Park, a community-led project that will train and hire Bayview-Hunters Point residents. </span></p>

<p style="margin: 0;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Crews, which will include community members who have undergone construction training through the project’s workforce development program, will build the park’s infrastructure, piers, and other structures on the former industrial site at 900 Innes Avenue. Work will include rehabilitation of the historic Shipwright’s Cottage, a city landmark; construction of a food pavilion, shop building, and maintenance building; building two new piers, a floating dock, gangway and marine rails; and more. </span></p>

<p style="margin: 0;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Yesterday, the San Francisco Lawn Bowling Club (SFLBC) celebrated their member Arnald "Arnie" Barros, who turned 100 years old! Raised in Shanghai as an accomplished equestrian, soccer and softball player, dancer and motorcyclist, Arnie and family relocated to Hong Kong after WWII and finally to San Francisco in the late 1950s. He later became a tournament-level ten-pin bowler, a sport that would aid him in lawn bowls when he joined the SFLBC in 1990, and where he continues to bowl today! He served as club president from 1997-98 and was the longtime coordinator of games and socials, helping to spread this great game to San Franciscans. Happy birthday Arnie and thank you for promoting lawn bowling and recreation at this historic facility in Golden Gate Park.
