Hello,

There was a substitute on Monday, 9/16/2024, and I assigned students to cut/tape their lab worksheet into their science notebook and to complete a google form that had 5 questions. Once students were done with those two things, they were given the opportunity to work on incomplete/missing assignments inside their notebook. Unfortunately, students had told the substitute in class that they were all done with their notebooks and had nothing else to complete. They were the only class period that told this to the sub.

I believe that when students say something to someone about our class that they are sharing the truth, and so I told them I would take their notebooks and grade them overnight and provide them their score. You will see in ParentVue the grade your student received for their notebook. I only had 5 perfect scores, and the rest ranging from low/mid 20's to mid-teens. I explained to my students the importance of using work time properly in class, and how disappointing it was to see so many notebooks not complete.

For students who did not receive a passing score of 22.5/30 (this is a 75% C), I will give them the opportunity to complete that missing work and with our Unit 1 NB check (in just a few weeks), I will update their grade with the higher score - so long as that work is complete.

I wanted to give you a heads up as to why you may see an unfavorable grade for that assignment.

Please let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns, and I'll reply back as soon as I am able to.

Take care,

Mrs. Jennifer Estrella (she/her)
7th Grade Science
Herbert Hoover Middle School
