<p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">Hello there! </span></p><p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">It's only been a week since my last email, but so much has happened in our classes that I need to update you with! </span></p><p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">What happened during the week of October 21st, 2024? On Monday, students got their results of the borax with water, and many of them were impressed with the way their crystals turned out! They had to take data and observations about their crystal, and they all learned how to help each other to get their glass beakers clean of the borax. I especially was pleased with the students that really took a stand to help the students clean the beakers because oddly enough, it took longer to clean than it did to record their data. Feel free to ask them about that little adventure in class. On block day, students were given individual work time so that I would be able to grade their notebooks during class and be able to take them home. They read an article about the different types of chemical reactions (there are 5), and a little bit about the periodic table. They learned about physical and chemical changes and how to recognize them, and that there are some reactions that both of these changes are apparent. On Thursday, I was out due to a doctor's appointment and students had to take notes about the periodic table and had time to work on their science books for Unit 2. On Friday, I reviewed the notes of the periodic table and the students learned how to use that information on how to draw an atomic structure that contains protons, electrons and neutrons. We even learned about valence electrons on how they are important in making molecules, and how they are responsible for reactions that could happen. </span></p><p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">With regards to notebooks, I want to emphasize that students have been advised almost daily that they should review the slides with their notebook to make sure that they have completed all of the assignments that are required. Students are also expected to do work in their science notebook during class time because many students did not complete pages of their notebook that were assigned during class time. </span></p><p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">When it comes to grades, students should be paying attention to the Fall grade since that is the final grade that will be posted for the semester. The Fall grade is a combination of 1st and 2nd quarter, so they will receive two grades at the end of the semester. I have only posted one assignment for the new quarter, so I expect grades to increase over the next few weeks so long as they turn in and do well on their work. </span></p><p><span style="background-color:transparent;color:#000000;">And with that, please feel free to reach out with any specific questions/concerns, and I will try my best to get back to you when I am able to.
