Hello! And welcome back from spring break! I hope you were able to find some time to enjoy each other's company during our week off! Apparently, the extra credit did not post when it was supposed to, but that meant - more time to relax for them! And can you believe that we are nearing the end of the school year?!

This past week we focused on setting up for the next and final unit of 7th grade: Ecosystems and Human impact. We had students set up their Unit 5 title page, EQ and then did a quick review on ecology and ecosystems. On block day, we discussed photosynthesis and how it is related to cellular respiration along with the Law of Conservation of Matter. Students had a worksheet to complete and put into their notebook. On Thursday, we reviewed the Food Chain and the Food Web. There was also a worksheet that they had to complete and put into their notebook. It's definitely been busy! Today, students worked at their own pace to take notes in their notebook on the water and carbon cycle. They had to pick up another worksheet related to these two, and then answer questions in their science notebook. I will sign these off on Monday for students who did not get their signature for today. They should also be working on three review games: intro to ecosystems, food chain/food web and abiotic cycles (water and carbon). These will be due on Monday, 4/14/2025 by 11:59 PM. Students will notice that I am checking their notebooks a little more frequently for work I expect to have completed at home. They will receive either a stamp or a signature if it was completed on time. This will help when determining an in between grade for their science notebook. Feel free to check in with them regarding their work.

So, what happens now? Well, students should complete their work if they are behind on their science assignments for Unit 5 and/or if they feel like doing extra credit. The extra credit is to do a family notebook check (you get to see what they've done in their notebook over the school year) which is due next Friday, 4/18/2025. I have reminded them everyday that if they are interested in completing it to raise their grade to pick it up. I am still grading Unit 4 Individual projects (so sorry!), and hope to update them soon. Meanwhile, you'll see the smaller assignments popping up on ParentVue/StudentVue, and if it is marked missing - it is highly encouraged to complete it soon and submit a late ticket before the end of the year which can get a little crazy.

And one side note about our Unit 5…it will end one day early as I will be attending two promotions for my own children this year (so crazy!), so all grades should be final by Thursday, May 29, 2025. If that date changes, I will let you know.

Alright! With that, have an amazing weekend and we'll be in touch soon. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments and/or concerns. I will reply as soon as I am able to.

Take care,
Mrs. Jennifer Estrella (she/her)
7th Grade Science
Herbert Hoover Middle School
