Well, we are almost there…we have less than 10 days left for this school year and I hope to finish it off strong!

Last week groups worked really hard with trying to complete the final steps of their group project. Groups needed the final two signatures (Part 6: Testing their prototype) to get the full credit for the project. There were still a handful of groups who were scrambling to complete this part, and block day really was the last day for them to complete it. On Friday, our students in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th period classes completed their group presentations regardless if they completed the final part of their project; all they had to do was explain what their next steps were for their project and when they planned on completing those tasks. With our limited days together, I am going to continue to encourage our students and hope for the very best for them until I can no longer continue to do so (due to my own deadline for grades).

On Thursday, 5/22/2025, I was out due to appointments for my own kids, and there were groups who left the classroom without MY permission. All groups who did not follow expectations have a deduction of 5 points for penalty, and will not get signed off for the last portion of their project. There were also groups that did not follow instructions for the day and have been deducted 3 points. All classes have been spoken to that expectations should still be met regardless of the end of the school year. If anything, I have been extremely clear about expectations and will hold students accountable for their actions.

With the upcoming days, we will complete our final presentations and final projects on block day. We will do our peer evaluations to close out Unit 5 on Thursday, 5/29/2025, and then a couple of other small assignments like our self reflection of the spring semester, then our final one: Advice to Future 7th graders. I can't believe that we are almost there! I'm sure these kids are waiting so anxiously to end this school year with a big sigh of relief.

In regards to work, I am still grading their Unit 5 Notebooks (you should see it posted in Parent/StudentVue as missing or with a score, as well as the other assignments mentioned, so I hope to have final grades finalized by Friday evening, 5/30/24.. As for students who submitted late tickets with late tickets, please be patient as I continue to update them, but if there are any mistakes please have your student come see me during lunch and/or after school to get those updated as soon as possible.

As for any extra credit that students have done this semester, I will update those in our participation points for the semester. At this time, there are no more make-up assignments accepted unless I have directly communicated with you and/or your student prior to May 22, 2025. Please do not ask for your student to turn in any late work as I have encouraged students daily to turn in missing work.

With that, I want to remind you all that I will be out on Friday, May 30 and Monday, June 2, 2025 for my own children's promotions. So families who have more than one promotion/graduation, I feel your struggle! I hope you are enjoying your long weekend. Please let me know if there are any questions/concerns and I will try my best to reply when I am able to.

Take Care,
Mrs. Jennifer Estrella (she/her)
7th Grade Science
Herbert Hoover Middle School
