<p>Dear Hoover Families,</p>
<p>I am writing to share an update regarding the ongoing labor negotiations between SFUSD and United Educators of San Francisco (UESF), as well as information about planning and communication should there be any impact on the school day.</p>
<p>SFUSD remains committed to negotiating in good faith with UESF and working toward an agreement that supports our students, educators, and school communities. UESF represents many of our dedicated educators and staff who serve our students every day, including teachers, substitutes, paraeducators, counselors, social workers, nurses, and more.</p>
<p><strong>Timely and Responsive Information</strong><br>

<p><strong>Board of Education Meeting</strong><br>
<span style="color:#222222;">On Tuesday, Feb. 3, there will be a special Board of Education meeting that will focus on labor negotiations. During this meeting, the Board will discuss and act on an emergency resolution that would provide the Superintendent with the authority to make necessary operational decisions in the event of a strike.</span></p>
<p><strong>Fact-Finding Process and Potential Strike Timeline</strong><br>
An independent fact-finding report is expected to be released on Wednesday, Feb. 4, following the completion of the fact-finding process. This report will analyze UESF’s requests and the district’s responses, and will include recommendations on how to proceed.</p>
<p>The earliest that UESF could initiate a strike would be after the release of this report. Following the report, there is typically a 10-day “cooling-off” period; however, it is not yet clear how UESF would calculate this period or in what manner a strike might occur. Unions are legally required to provide the district with at least 48 hours’ notice prior to a strike. At this time, SFUSD has not been formally notified by UESF of an intent to strike.</p>
<p>SFUSD will notify families as soon as the district receives formal notice from UESF if they intend to strike. We will continue to provide information and resources to minimize disruption to student learning and to prioritize student safety for all students.</p>
<p>Only the Superintendent, with authorization from the Board of Education, has the authority to close schools. Closing schools is a last resort, but may be necessary if the district cannot safely operate schools during a strike. We strongly believe that students belong in school, and the district is developing contingency plans in the event of a strike. Families are also encouraged to begin developing their own contingency plans should the school day be impacted.</p>
