<p>We've received some good questions from families of students coming to Lowell next year with existing IEPs and 504 plans. Here is some important information for you that was missing from last night's presentation:</p><p><strong>STUDENTS WITH IEPs</strong></p><ul><li>You do not need to fill out the course selection form. </li><li>All important information and decisions for next year will be addressed during your transition IEP before the end of this semester. Your contact for your transition IEP is your Middle School case manager. Please reach out to them directly if you have questions about scheduling your transition IEP.</li></ul><p><strong>STUDENTS WITH 504 PLANS</strong></p><ul><li>If you are currently at a SFUSD Middle School, we already have access to your existing 504 plan. </li><li>If you are not coming from a SFUSD middle school, you will upload a copy of your current 504 plan as part of the course selection form.</li><li>Once the school year starts, your new counselor will reach out to schedule a transition 504 meeting to discuss any needed changes to your existing accommodations for the high school environment. </li><li>Because student schedules often change during the first week or two of school, these meetings will not be scheduled before the 3rd week of school. Student experience and teacher input are an important part of the 504 process, so that delay also allows students and teachers to give input directly based on student experience in high school classes.</li><li>Teacher rosters will indicate which students have existing 504 plans. </li><li>While the first week or two of classes have lower academic stakes as activities and assignments are focused on building community and familiarity with routines and expectations, teachers are very receptive to direct communication from families about specific concerns related to 504 plans before transition 504s are held.</li></ul><p>Best regards,</p><p>Assistant Principal McDonell</p>
