Ahead of Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup showdown between Team USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina, some of our summer campers showed their soccer spirit by wearing their favorite jerseys and cheering on their favorite teams. Mayor Daniel Lurie officially proclaimed the day as Jersey Day in San Francisco.</p>

Starting today, July 1, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has officially taken over operations and management of parks on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, marking an exciting new chapter for these growing waterfront communities. As the Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island redevelopment continues, the area will eventually feature more than 290 acres of parks and open space, up to 8,000 new homes, public art, expanded transit and more. Some parks that have not yet been renovated will continue to be managed by the Treasure Island Development Authority until construction is complete. The 2026 Greenager cohort took part in a four-day, three-night camping experience at Camp Mather, marking a first-of-its-kind trip in program history. Participants explored the outdoors through hikes along the Canyon Rim Trail, evening stargazing, and a ropes course, while also contributing hands-on stewardship work by removing invasive plants and clearing saplings along trails, infrastructure, fire hoses, and Birch Lake.</p>
<p style="margin:0">
For many Greenagers, this was their first visit to Camp Mather, and for some, their first time camping or spending nights away from home. The group built community through shared meals, campfire activities, and time in nature, while also connecting with former Greenager August Iribarne, who is now part of the Camp Mather staff. Former Major League Baseball player and San Francisco Giants broadcaster FP Santangelo visited a recent San Francisco Bay Sox practice, spending time with the program’s 10U, 12U, and 14U all-girls baseball teams as they prepare for the upcoming Baseball For All National Tournament in Rockford, Illinois.</p>
<p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:10px">
The Baseball For All National Tournament will take place July 19–25 in Rockford and brings together girls baseball teams from across the country across age divisions ranging from 8U through 18U. The Bay Sox 10U, 12U, and 14U teams will all be competing in the tournament, representing their program and city on a national stage.</p>

During his visit, Santangelo shared insights from his professional baseball and broadcasting career, engaged directly with players across all three teams, played catch, and assisted with pickoff drills at second base, offering hands-on instruction and encouragement throughout practice. His time on the field added energy, excitement, and valuable perspective as the teams continue preparing for high-level competition. We're thrilled to share that Irving, the young seal pup our park rangers spotted out of his habitat near 48th Avenue and Irving Street back in April, has made a full recovery and has been released back into the wild in Monterey.</p>
<p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:16px">When our rangers found Irving, he was severely malnourished and weighed about half of what a seal pup his age should. After months of expert care and rehabilitation, he's healthy, strong, and back where he belongs.</p>
<p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:16px">Irving was released alongside sea lion Jade, who also recovered from malnutrition.</p>
<p style="margin:0;margin-bottom:16px">A huge thank you to everyone who helped get Irving to safety and back on his flippers, especially the SFPD and The Marine Mammal Center. Wishing you the best, Irving!</p>
