Hi all. I am 16W pregnant with my twins and both my
husband and I had been not-so-secretly hoping for at
least one girl-- and of course we are having two boys.
Although I am thrilled about my little boys to be, I am
still feeling a little sad about the daughter I will
never have. Moms of same-sex twins (who are not
planning for more babies), did you feel any
disappointment? And do you have any stories about how
amazing it turned out to be to have two little ones of
 the same age and sex?

I haven't found any good toddler or preschool books
that are twin specific. So far my faves for this age
are Positive Discipline, 1-2-3 Magic and How to Talk So
Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk. Here's a
great summary of 1-2-3 Magic from a blog I follow. They
have triplets-I lean towards Positive Discipline and
Attachment theory as my framework for how I want to
discipline and develop our kids, I found I often
struggled when all three kids would melt down at once
(that point where they are feeding off each other). I
was spending way too much time explaining everything or
I would totally lose my patience and fall into my
automatic parenting (which is yelling for me and being
super frustrated because there are THREE of them who
need attention at the same time and it's hard to get
all three to stop and listen). But being able to just
say "That's one" and not get pulled into the
preschooler debate of who did what & why was such a
relief for me. And honestly, I dont think 3 year olds
need so many 'discussions' about their behaviors --
let's just redirect (which is what the brief time out
does) and move onThey have responded well to it
-- I think we're going to continue using it for
stopping behaviors (that's all it works for, stopping
behaviors -- not getting them to start doing
something). It allows me to then use all the Positive
Discipline techniques for all the things I want to
instill in our kids. Just a lot less talking about what
"not" to do. The hard part, as with everything, is
 being consistent.
