1. sides off cribs, kids aren't sleeping - help!

Hey POM,Years' ago we received what now seems like sage
advice to keep the sides on our kids' cribs as long as
possible. We took them off ~ 10 days ago [our 3 1/2
year old twin girls share the same room]. Instead of
going to bed after a little chatting at 7:30, they've
been jumping on each other, giggling, turning the
lights on + reading books, jumping up and down, turning
on each other's crib soothers, etc. Tonight at 9:45,
they decided to unscrew all the knobs on their dresser
and line them up on top + it was all giggles. While
cute, we're concerned that they're now losing 2-4 hours
of sleep they were getting regularly before. They're
also still napping for 2-3 hours in the afternoon and
have heard that many kids drop their nap by now, so
 perhaps that's a contributing factor?Anyway, we're
trying to decide whether to put the sides back on the
cribs for a while longer or if there are any other
strategies we should pursue to get them to bed.
Alternatively, we could just let the giggles commence
and deal w/ sleepy kids during the day. All advice
 welcome! Many thanks!

2. Seeking Nanny in Sausalito

reynolds1 - 2/20/2012 7:42 am

We are interested in finding a caring, loving,
 energetic, punctual, responsible, and experienced
nanny/mother's helper to care for our adorable boy/girl
twins beginning daytime in March. The candidate should
be mature and have demonstrated experience caring for
twin infants. Please let me know if you have an
incredible nanny to recommend? Thank you so very much!

Our mono-di twins went through TTTS (discovered around
15 weeks and had laser surgery to correct in LA around
17 weeks). As a result, I was on a modified bed rest
the remainder of the pregnancy. We made it to 36 weeks
5 days and the babes were born at 5 lbs 1 oz. and 5 lbs
3 oz. (amazing!!) We were so lucky in so many ways.
We delivered at CPMC and throughout the pregnancy were
very closely monitored by the incredible Dr Otto and
his team at SF Perinatal and my phenomenal OB team at
Dr Cynthia Farner's office. We actually made an
induction plan the day before my water broke (the
doctors were afraid for me to go much beyond 37 weeks)
and labor happened very naturally in the end (with a
couple applications of an epidural which helped me rest
and progress). The girls were both head down which
made vaginal birth possible for us. Particularly after
having gone through everything we went through, I was
prepared to be induced or need an emergency C at any
point but circumstances for us meant we didn't need
either. My advise to you is to lean towards the advise
of the perinatal team, do your own research and in the
end, make your own choices based on what your doctors
recommend and what feels right to you. (that
combination is what saved our little ones I believe -
we had to be aggressive to seek treatment)I'm also
happy to chat to you or anyone about what we went
through with TTTS if anyone is interested.

I am blown away by your story, Heather. It's truly
inspirational- successful laser, making it past 36
weeks and then delivering vaginally. Incredible. Great
to hear so such an amazing outcome!
