SF Chronicle: SF Cabrillo Playground Renovation Groundbreaking

Saturday's groundbreaking for the renovation of Cabrillo Playground in San Francisco's
Richmond District came five years after Devi Joseph started rallying the neighborhood
to clean up the park where she played as a child.

"The playground was covered with graffiti ... we were out here sifting through the
sand looking for needles and glass," said Joseph, who returned to her childhood 
home in 2006, after she retired. "We decided we didn't want to live around something

Photo Exhibit Celebrates the City's Parks and Hidden Gems

Harvey  Milk Photography Center invites its members and Recreation and  Park Department
staff to submit work showcasing the large variety of  green spaces our city has 
to offer, from popular destinations such as  Golden Gate Park, Dolores Park, and
 Alamo Square Park, to vast, lesser  known parks, including Glen Canyon Park and
 John McLaren Park, as well  as mini-parks and hidden stairways nestled throughout
town.

People,  pets, sunrises, sunsets, rain, sun, fog, wildlife, vistas, cityscapes, 
 trees, meadows, and macros - we'd like to see it all. Color, black and  white, 
digital and film photography will be accepted. Deadline for  submissions is Saturday,
June 23, at 4 p.m.
