Queen's Day Celebration in Golden Gate Park a Huge Success
With the crowd dressed in orange, the Dutch national color honoring the Dutch royal
House of Orange, gathered near the Dutch Windmill in Golden Gate Park on Saturday,
April 28 to celebrate Queen's Day in San Francisco. The Netherlands Consulate, together
with San Francisco Recreation and Parks and the local Dutch community, organized
the festive celebration. Highlights of the day included volunteer projects; a commemoration
of the newly-restored Murphy Windmill; a "Market to Mill" bike ride, organized by
the San Francisco Bike Coalition; and Dutch delicacies served by SF food truck vendors.

A Special Cherry Blossom Tree Planting in Golden Gate Park

and Mayor Ed Lee were on hand for a special cherry blossom tree planting at the
Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate on April 23. The ceremony marked the 100th anniversary
of a gift of 5,000 cherry trees from Japan to the United States in 1912 to encourage
exchange between the two nations.

Stern Grove Festival Celebrates its 75th Season This Summer

has announced its 75th season of admission-free concerts, Sundays at 2 p.m., from
June 24 through August 26, at Sigmund Stern Grove. This landmark summer season features
a mix of performers as diverse as the city it calls home. This summer's 10-week
concerts series features an array of pop and jazz music greats, including Anita
Baker, Sheila E, Al Jarreau, OK Go, Ozomatli, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Meshell
Ndegeocello, as well as the City's three classical institutions-the San Francisco
Symphony, Ballet and Opera. Stern Grove Festival is the only venue in the world
where all three of these renowned cultural institutions perform every summer, completely
admission-free.

Penny Carnival Fun at Potrero Hill on May 4
On Friday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., join us at Potrero Hill Recreation Center
(801 Arkansas) for a special Penny Carnival for families with children under 6 years
old. The event will include carnival-style games, parachute games, an obstacle
course, music and movement demonstrations, art and crafts, face painting, and an
imagination playground, each for just a cent! (Proceeds will go toward Rec and
Park's Scholarship Program.)

Free Bluegrass at Access to Adventure on May 5
Join us on Saturday, May 5, for Access to Adventure, a fitness and fun event for
kids with special health care needs or disabilities. Noon to 3 p.m., at the Music
Concourse Bandshell in Golden Gate Park. This year, special guests Jeanie & Chuck's
Country Roundup and Windy Hill will be on hand to perform some of our favorite bluegrass
