Holiday Tree Lighting on December 6

Come  celebrate the start of the holiday season at San Francisco Recreation  and
 Parks' annual Holiday Tree Lighting at McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate  Park (501 
Stanyan Street), Thursday, December 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,  featuring free carnival
rides, arts and crafts, live entertainment and a  visit from Santa. For more information,

Hoops Summit 2013

Rec  and Park's Girls In Sports program held its Health and Hoops Summit  at Hamilton
Recreation Center on November 17.  Girls, ages 5-14, learned new skills while  improving
on passing, shooting, defense, and other basketball skills. Rec and Park teacher
 and national boxing champ Raquel Miller was on hand to speak to the girls. Click

Fall 2013 Soccer Tryouts Begin in December

Even though the fall soccer season has just completed, the competitive soccer clubs
in the city start having tryouts  for the future right away, and continue doing 
so over the winter. This is not for spring soccer - it's in fact for next fall rosters,
for the 2013-2014 soccer year.
SF Vikings offers teams three levels of play. Recreational soccer, one or two  seasons
a year, is a great fit for the vast majority of kids to have  fun, get exercise 
and learn about teamwork. SF Vikings also administers a  competitive league called
CCSL Prep, (formerly known as  Upper House), which plays select teams from Marin
 through SF to South  San Francisco. A smaller number of teams, U10 and older, advance
to CCSL  Coast & Bay travel divisions, which play up and down the peninsula  or 
across the Bay.
San Francisco now has a wide array of competitive clubs, as well as  independent
 teams. New this year are competitive teams as young as U8  and U9.
If your child's desire and ability level are steered to select-team  soccer, there
are two ways to look for teams during the winter of 2012.

* The first is to attend a club's open tryouts on specific dates.
* The second is to arrange with a coach or manager to attend one of their winter
 practices.

Signups for 2013 SF Youth Baseball League Begin December 6

The 2013 season of the San Francisco Youth Baseball League is right  around the 
corner in March 2013.  Registration begins December 6, at 10  a.m.  Fees are $80
 per player, which includes coaching, uniforms,  practice and games.  Multiple divisions
