2. This Club needs YOU!

nataliasha2004 - 1/16/2013 10:48 pm
Greetings, POM members!! [FB users, please excuse the
cross-posting!] Just an update on the volunteer
positions we still have available, in case you might
be!! It's a GREAT way to network within the Club, and
to make a real, concrete difference in the lives and
experiences of your fellow multiples families. MOST of
the work is done on your own schedule, from the comfort
of your own computer. Please contact me at
president at sfpom.org, if you're interested in info on
any of the following:* Expert Speaker Series
Coordinator -- plan 4-8 speaker sessions/yr. These are
a free but incredibly valuable benefit for our members.
Past topics have included: Baby Sign Language, how to
find a nanny, traveling with kids, understanding infant
behavior, and more. (Sessions have historically been on
weeknights, but this is flexible.) We have a number of
regular speakers, but there's also room to identify
others you think would be of interest.* Family Outings
Planner - Plan 3 events per year for SFPOM families to
gather and socialize. These events are held on
weekends, typically in one of the City's many parks.*
Newsletter Editor/Content Manager (the latter once we
get our website redesigned.) Oversee the creation of a
couple more paper editions of Multiplicity, and then
manage its new, online version, once that's up and
running.* Dads' Night Out Planner. Coordinate 2-4 DNOs
per year. This is not much more involved than making
reservations and posting a little info.* Fall
Consignment Sale. We need a variety of different kinds
of helpers for the Sale this fall, which we expect to
be the best one yet!We are an all-volunteer
organization, and we rely on the energy, kindness,
expertise and enthusiasm of our members to keep our
Club strong and healthy. (&, fyi, several of the above
positions also provide discounted membership for your
family.)Thanks for considering!Natasha
Glushkoff(President, SFPOM)

If you haven't already done so, please join our Club
page on Facebook! It's a rather more user-friendly way
to share info with other Club members. (And, if your
partner is not on BigTent, be sure they sign up,
too!)Once in FB, search for "SFPOM" in the Search field
at the top to get to our page. You'll have to request
permission, and one of the administrators will approve
you, as long as you're a POM member.Hope to see you
there soon! : )

We LOVE the Stokke... now that the kids are almost 3
years old. We couldn't use them for about 18 months
for a variety of reasons. First, we took them away and
found a different solution because having
babies/toddlers at the dining room table isn't as great
as it seems (they smear food all over, and BANG their
utensils, and we have a very nice antique table that
was getting destroyed. You'd need to purchase the
Stokke tray accessory to avoid this, and I'd already
spent enough on Stokke things at that point!) Then we
tried again and had to take them away again because at
14 months (or so) they started tipping backwards in
them. (I urge you to youtube "stokke high chair
dangerous" for an example of what I'm talking about. I
caught my daughter just inches before hitting the
ground once - so into the garage they went. And yes,
we were using the "fix" leg extenders the company had
made so this wasn't supposed to happen.) All that
said, now we LOVE them, and we'll have several more
years of using them. Also, I had two friends with
Stokke who didn't have the tipping children problem
that I did, so it's a matter of whether or not your
child thinks to put their feet up and push back during
the window of time that their legs are short enough to
do it. Good luck! (Also, you're anonymous so I don't
know if you're just pregnant or if you have kids that
are ready for high chairs. If you're just pregnant,
you don't need high chairs for a LONG time, especially
if you have preemies. You don't start solids until at
least 6 months, and we had much better success feeding
the babies in the vibrating chairs for the first
several months. So no need to rush out until you're
sure about what you want to purchase.)

i just got the OXO sprout two days ago. So far so good.
The girls seem to like it, and it is pretty easy to
clean, just wipe down. I like that we can keep them
till the girls are 5 years old. I guess I liked the
OXO over the stoke because I didn't have to buy any
extra seats, or cushions which was just more to buy.

I've heard the depth in the oxo tot chair is not as
much as the stokke as they grow older. Realistically,
how long will they sit in high chairs?I'll look up the
dangers of the stokke - had no idea!Oxo tot seems more
reasonable in price but then stokke can be used as a
regular chair anywhere later on. Does stokke promote
children to sit upright at earlier ages? I vaguely
remember something like that I read years ago.We have
twins that are close to solid food age. Decided to go
anonymous because of the brands. ;)

We just had our twins birthday party at San Francisco
Gymnastics. It was such a great party. They can
accomodate 20 kids for one price and then for each
additional kid they tack on a few more dollars p/k. We
had a great time. Would recommend checking it out.

So much information here! For what it's worth, I went
to a feeding class at Kaiser and did some reading, and
our approach was to offer solids 30-60 minutes after
the bottle. The idea was that RIGHT after a bottle
they're not that interested in solids, and solids right
before a bottle can be frustrating, since they are
hungry and don't understand that the solid food will
address that problem (and hungry isn't the best way to
learn a new skill) . The schedule worked well for us -
they still did fine with the bottle, and did a pretty
good job of exploring solids. I don't remember the
exact specifics, and I didn't keep notes, but a sample
schedule would be:6:30 wake6:45 bottle (essentially
right after waking, it just took 15 minutes to get
everyone up and changed and get the bottles, etc.)7:30
solids9:30 nap11:00 wake11:15 bottle12:00 solids1:30
nap3:00 wake3:15 bottle4:00 solids6:00 last
bottle6:15/6:30 bedWhen we first started introducing
solids, we started with a midday meal, then added
breakfast, and dinner was last. (I think we didn't add
dinner until 9 months or so). That was mostly because
the afternoon was our best shot at an outing, and being
home to do solids in the middle of it was restrictive.
One downside to this schedule is that with the spacings
between bottles and solids, it can be hard to get out
as much... but it worked well for us in terms of
introducing solid foods, and the more comfortable they
get with it the more likely you can feed them while out
and about, and or adjust the schedule to meet your
needs better.Good luck!

we recently started using wifibaby.net which only comes
with the camera and you can view via iOS app, Android,
or etc. Its been great so far as we can see our day
nanny and kids on our iPhone, browser, or iPad. One
issue is night vision is great but the company is
sending a revised version of our camera which should
resolve any night vision issues. Devin is the sales guy
and Gary is an awesome support tech.
