(From sfybl.com [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001MuyML1bOo7jL0QHEaWkwMfiEkWhdIUPccS9wBpnUaM96BhMzE1OTIieK6qBQ1bK_RpFVAKzC3mbpwwHRbolwfPUmJPZ88HFEQ8byikPXywZZ6XKTmvmxrvf97QcLBEo6nLjEI9K-IfLKDWLk7oxSY-RBkjF5SRYkSBe4mHxyw0OWwEXnKGg4Yw==])

The San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL) 9U all-star team won the PONY Mustang-9
NorCal division title at the PONY Super Regionals in Brentwood, Calif. on Sunday,
July 14.

The Super Regionals featured the champions and some runners-up from all Northern
California PONY regions. The SFYBL 9Us went 4-0 in the tournament, scoring 38 runs
and giving up just 7 runs in four games. This comes off their undefeated 4-0 performance
in the Central Region sectional where they scored 48 runs and gave up just 7 runs
in four games.

The SFYBL 9Us now advance to the PONY West Zone championships in Walnut, Calif.
(LA County) this coming weekend, July 20-23. The West Zone championships consist
of the top PONY teams from eleven western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado,
Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming.

Their first game will be Saturday, July 20, 11:30 a.m., against Hilo, Hawaii. You
can view the PONY Mustang-9 West Zone tournament bracket at: http://tinyurl.com/qc7thot
[http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001MuyML1bOo7hfy-XljHoM9gKOgwcPCdb10G0OmZtjT3btrJfY_7JspKiCXsFuDVTHpoPuMGGTt-F-Ed87urxj1aureiXRn0qsxOZTzCNZq1cux3P9t426P28so6s5PV2K]

This is the first time in more than 15 years that a San Francisco team has advanced
this far in the PONY tournament sequence. This is a tremendous achievement by our
9U all-star team and representative of what the best youth baseball league in San
Francisco can be. We wish them the best as they head down to Southern California
to compete to be the best in the west.

Marina Yacht Harbor Reopens

On July 11, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department celebrated the grand
opening of the Marina Yacht Harbor with a ribbon cutting ceremony and free kayaking.
Assemblyman Phil Ting, Supervisor Mark Farrell, Recreation and Park Commission
President Mark Buell and General Manger Phil Ginsburg cut the ribbon on the $27
Million dollar renovation. Rec and Park's waterfront recreation staff was on hand
to provide free kayaking lessons and the Bluewater Foundation offered sailing program
information.

The renovation, funded primarily through a loan from

the California Department of Boating and Waterways, involved dredging the harbor,
replacing the docks, expanding public access to the waterfront and adding new amenities
including benches and lookouts.

Numerous community partners joined in the celebration including the Marina Community
Association, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission and the Blue Water
Foundation, a foundation that provides sailboats and training to community-

based organizations at no cost.

Volunteer Program Wrap-Up

Sixth Annual Lake McNab and Louis Sutter Playground Cleanup

About 40 neighbors in District 10 convened on Saturday, July 13, for the 6th Annual
Lake McNab and Louis Sutter Playground Cleanup, organized and hosted by the dynamic
community-based volunteer group, Help McLaren Park. One group of volunteers dressed
in waist-high waders, jumped in the lake and raked away many loads of algae and
debris. Another group sifted the sand and wiped down recreational structures
at the playground. The event culminated with a delicious barbecue feast. And
by the day's end, the neighbors had transformed the playground at McLaren Park
into a great place to get out and play for kids of all ages.

Ocean Beach Cleanup

On Saturday July 13, more than 300 volunteers from all over the Bay Area participated
in an Ocean Beach Cleanup at the western end of Golden Gate Park. This massive coastal
cleanup event was jointly hosted by SF Rec and Park, the National Parks Service,
the Presidio Trust and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Volunteers
performed graffiti abatement on the sea wall along the Great Highway and picked
up litter on the beach, and a group of 40 volunteers joined the group to pick up
trash around the west end of Golden Gate Park. Unlimited free ice cream from the
event sponsor and supporter, Ben & Jerry's, was given to all of the volunteers.
Yum. Yum! It was a San Fran-tastic day!

Thanks again to all of the volunteers who work in our parks and programs each and
every day!
