Lafayette Park Reopens

Lafayette Park reopened in grand fashion this past Saturday, June 8, after a $10.7
million renovation under the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond.  A special
thanks to Senator Mark Leno; District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell; Supervisor Scott
Wiener; Supervisor John Avalos; City Treasurer Jose Cisneros; the office of Assemblymember
Phil Ting; Rec and Park Commissioners Allan Low and Meagan Levitan; Rec and Park
 GM Phil Ginsburg; DPW director Mohammed Nuru; and the Friends of Lafayette Park,
who were all on hand to lead the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Neighbor Sharon Holder was so moved by the event, she wrote and sent in this poem
in honor of this special occasion:
LAFAYETTE PARK
Beautifully landscaped
Everywhere splashes of green
Varieties of trees, old and new, swaying in the breeze
With assortment of flowers adorning the paths like diamonds on snow
Cascading lavenders a welcoming sight
Moms and dads pushing strollers
Kids frolicking happy as larks
Dogs flickering like aimless patterns on the grass
Star-gazed lovers touching hands
Some grazing in the sun
While others join in the fun
The sun is shining and the park is alive
The music is pumping and the crowd is gathering
Lots of laughter, chatter and cheer
Today is the day
Lafayette Par comes alive
It's officially re-opened!

Golden Gate Audubon Society Volunteer Picnic on June 15

If you volunteer in any way with the Golden Gate Audubon Society -- from working

Glen Canyon Renovation Community Meetings in June and July

As many of you may know, thanks to the community  planning process in 2010-2011,
 which identified the needs for renovation  and improvement of the facilities at
 Glen Canyon Park, not only is the  playground and tennis court renovation in construction
 now, the Recreation Center Building Renovation was funded by voters in  the 2012
Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond!

Please come and be a part of this process.  We will  provide opportunities to be
 involved in person at the community  meetings, also by email and web, where we 
will post meeting materials.   We really hope many of you that have been involved
 developing the plan for the recreation center renovation in the  meetings in 2010,
2011 and 2012 come and new people come as well!
