1. Mother's helper rates
--------------------------------------------------------
lindseylou2 - 9/11/2013 11:52 pm

Just wondering what the going rate is for a mother's
helpers/housekeepers for twins. We're interviewing some
ladies to help out with our 9 month old babies and
around the house and I want to offer fair rates. Most
of the women we're speaking to have kids/grand kids of
their own and have extensive experience, often as a
 nanny. Thanks!

My girls are about 3.5 months old and we are still
swaddling them for nap time and bedtime. They still
seem to like it, but I keep thinking that the swaddles
look so tight these days. We have liked the summer
infant swaddles the best, but the small/medium is
getting really snug and the next size up is huge.
Should I switch them into sleep sacks now? Or will
there be some sign that they are ready to move out of
the swaddle? How long did you swaddle your babies?

We stopped swaddling sometime around 3-4 months. Our
kids didn't really love the swaddle, and often got out
of it, no matter how well we wrapped them up. Once your
kids start rolling over that's usually a good time to
stop swaddling, so there's no risk of them getting
stuck with their face against something without the use
of their arms. Good luck - whenever you do it, hope
 it's a smooth transition!

I was wondering how long to keep swaddling our girls
who are 2 months. We're using the miracle blanket and
they seem to be out growing them. We tried the Adan +
Anais swaddle blanket but they got out I those in
 minute.

This is wonderful, great, brilliant!!! I'm not in a
position to mentor (our boys are almost 7!!), but as a
member and past SFPOM president I wanted to say thank
you for putting this out there and making it happen!!!!
What a fantastic idea, I would have loved to see a
multiples-day/house in action before it happened to me!
 Thanks again! Vicki

page? I just joined this group about a week ago and am
due with twins in February. I'd love to join the FB
group if y'all will have me!

So sorry to hear! I made it to 39 weeks and the only
way was to have the support belt and stay on the couch.
Also, do the cat/cow move that you learned in yoga
daily - multiple times a day. Sleeping IS really hard,
I never found the right pillow. I ended up sleeping on
my back a lot even if it's not recommended...you can
put a small pillow under your back to make sure you are
not completely flat. Some women don't like sleeping on
their back because of the pessure, but for me it was
alright for a few hours. Also, just keep telling
yourself it will all be worth it - you will get your
body back and will have less dificulty sleeping
soon...later lack of sleep won't be due to the big
belly it will be do to waking up to feed the little
ones every two hours so that will be a different
 conversation!! :-)

Sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable. I've been
there! For me, lying down on my side on the couch - or
on the floor under my desk - as often as possible
helped. If you go into an office, try working from home
a bit and start thinking about disability leave sooner
than you planned. Also if you have a bathtub, taking
baths helps when you can't get to the pool. I also
loved Carole Moore for prenatal massages. Can send you
her number if you're interested. She is in tr mission.
I agree it is so worth it but hard to convince yourself
of it when you are so uncomfortable!

I often offer pregnant patients an abdominal binder
during and after their pregnancy. This garment is only
available in a Plastic Surgeon's office and
unfortunately you can't get it online. I'd be happy to
see you for a quick visit and to fit you in a binder to
help alleviate some of your end-of-pregnancy
discomfort!Just give my office a call and speak to

I remember those days... for me (in addition to many
of the suggestions above) rubbing it with rice oil
helped a bit... I remember one of the midwives I
spoke with said it's not even so much what you massage
your belly WITH, as that you massage it, to help the
circulation, I guess, and help loosen everything up as
best you can. Inside and out, it always seemed like
there would be regular discomfort while everything S T
 R E T C H E D, and adjusted, and then in was a little
easier for a bit, and then it would happen
 again...Remember - even though it's super uncomfortable
 - it IS temporary. And you wanna keep those babies in
as long as you can!Hang in there -- you're doing
 GREAT!!

The Twin Z pillow is new on the market. You might find
that you are one ofthe first people to review it, if
you choose that pillow. It looks good, butit is a new
design on the concept. The EZ-2-Nurse had been the
toprecommendation for years, and they have now
reinvented themselves to becomethe ³San Diego Bebe Eco
pillow², by the company Double Blessings (if youread
the fine print, it¹s the ³new and improved EZ 2
Nurse²). Both pillowsare now made with Eco friendly
materials. The online pricing varies, socheck several
sites. There are a few paper twin schedulers. Again, the
Twin Z company¹s is new,but probably great. There is
another one called ³Double Time², with the sameconcept.
There are also good phone apps, but a paper version
lets other caregivers view and use the scheduler too.If
anyone has used the newer Twin Z pillow (as opposed to
the EZ /now SanDiego Bebe), I am interested in the
 reviews.Carole

We have had an au pair from the time our twins were 1
month old, and we could not have survived without one!
My husband is a SAHD but with family very far away, we
need all the help we can get!We went through Cultural
Care Au Pair and have had a great experience. I cannot
imagine when we will outgrow our need for help - at
least not for another several years!I'd be happy to
discuss with you further personally. Just email at
drhorton at drkarenhorton.com or call at 415-994-3342.I
can get you in touch with the local rep and she can
further guide you as well.Karen HortonMom to 2-year-old
