Renovated Herz Baseball Diamond Ready for its Opening Day on May 31

On May 3, 2014, dozens of volunteers joined the San Francisco Recreation and Park
Department, San Francisco Public Works and TLC for Kids Sports to help transform
 the baseball diamond at Herz Playground in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood into
a beautiful space for kids to play ball.
This transformation was made possible through a generous in-kind grant from the 
non-profit TLC for Kids Sports, general engineering contractor O.C. Jones & Sons,
Inc., and support by SF Public Works.  The renovation includes brand new sod, fencing
and infield dirt, players' benches and repairs to the backstop.  New features include
an electronic scoreboard and a flagpole.
Please join us on Saturday, May 31, for a celebration event marking the completion
of these improvements.  The event will be emceed by KNBR radio personality Larry
 Kreuger, who will be joined by former Team USA softball player and Olympic medalist
Vicky Galindo.

Franco Mancini at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in
McLaren Park. This special springtime potluck event features live music by local
 youth bands and rememberances of Franco's life.

SF Chronicle Photo Album: US Soccer at Candlestick Park

The San Francisco Chronicle featured photos of the US Soccer team's 2-0 victory 
versus Azerbaijan at Candlestick Park on May 27, a tune-up game before this summer's
World Cup in Brazil. A host of events, including another professional soccer game
on July 27 between the San Jose Earthquakes and Atletico Madrid, is planned for

Third Annual Jiujitsu Tournament

The department's third annual Martial Arts Day and Jiujitsu Tournament on May 17
 yielded a bevy of awards for some up--and-coming martial artists.  Youth from Upper
Noe Recreation Center combined to win a total of 10 medals, with Sunset Recreation
Center a close second at nine medals.  Richmond Rec closed out the medal count with
a total of five medals.  Martial arts and jiujitsu classes for youth are going on
now. Mobile Rec at Miraloma Playground This Saturday, May 31

Come out to our Mobile Rec event this Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
Miraloma Playground (Omar and Sequoia Way). We will have a rock wall, slack lining,
disc golf, skateboarding/ramps & BMX bikes on site. We will also provide safety 
equipment. Mobile recreation is a free, kid-friendly event. Get out and play!

Celebrate National Trails Day on June 7

Celebrate National Trails Day in your city parks! Help complete the Greenbelt Trail
along Park Presidio Blvd. on Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m.-12 noon. Volunteers will work
alongside with our operations staff to perform trail grading and ivy removal for
 the entire trail! Volunteers must be over 12 years old to join the workday. Space
