New Registration System Launching this Fall
This fall, Rec and Park will be introducing a new registration system. In order 
to register for fall classes, you must create a new account. This new system will
be faster and more reliable, feature a new wish list function, is mobile-ready, 
and allows access to purchase aquatics passes and program memberships. For more

Registration for fall classes begins at 10 a.m. on August 13.
Classes include roller disco, senior line dancing, intergenerational step class,
 DIY podcasting, iPhone Photo Walks, Petite Bakers and, for the first time ever,
 Quidditch, a broom-riding, ball-chucking game inspired by the stories of Harry 
Potter.

49ers Kick Off New Season with Practice at Kezar Stadium
The San Francisco 49ers returned to their original home in San Francisco-- Kezar
 Stadium in Golden Gate Park-- for a practice in front of 9,000 fans on August 10.
All of the team's stars were out on the field for the fast-paced session, including
Colin Kaepernick, Torrey Smith, Eric Reid and NaVorro Bowman. Kezar, home to the
  Niners from 1946 to 1970, was built in 1925 and renovated in 1989.

Red Umbrellas in Golden Gate Park
Rec and Park has partnered with Red Umbrellas, an organization of local independent
artists, to bring an open-air art exhibit to the east end of Golden Gate Park, at
Stanyan and Haight streets. Marked by their distinctive red umbrellas, the exhibit
will be on site August 17. Stop by and check out the art, speak with the artists
 and tell your friends, family and neighbors about this new addition to Alvord Lake.

The Wild Bunch: Succulents, Cacti and Fat Plants
At the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park
This summer, the Conservatory of Flowers gets rough and tumble as it continues to
celebrate some of the more ornery gangs of the plant world in a new exhibition. 
Set amongst the rusty remnants of an old ghost town, The Wild Bunch, on view through
October 16, explores the strange and dramatic world of water hoarding plants, bristling
with living examples of cacti, fat plants (also known as caudiciforms) and other
 succulents. These fleshy, and often thorny, plants are distinguished for their 
ability to survive the most extreme, arid conditions, and their swollen stems and
leaves come in a stunning variety of weird shapes and unexpected colors. Click here
