Zooper Bowl 2016
As the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers prepare for the big game, the San Francisco Zoo is proud to bring you Zooper Bowl 2016 (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/8uubpc)! Come dressed in any football related attire (cap, t-shirt, jersey, etc.) February 5-8 and receive $1 off admission. Plus, we will donate a portion of tickets sales that weekend to help big cat and horse conservation groups.
If you're looking for some big game action, stop by the Zoo this Friday at 2 pm to watch two of San Francisco Zoo’s star animals kickoff Zooper Bowl festivities with an athletic contest pitting Boone, a seven-year-old black rhino named after San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Alex Boone, against a five-month-old lion cub. Boone will represent the Denver Broncos and the lion cub will represent the Carolina Panthers in a race to spike the “football,” a special game-inspired enrichment treat. The animal that tears into its football first will be deemed the winner of this timed event, thus predicting the outcome of Super Bowl 50. Plus, former San Francisco 49ers player Dashon Goldson (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/onvbpc) (currently with the Washington Redskins) will be onsite to watch the action unfold!
February is "Senior Sweethearts" Month
(https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/4fwbpc)
We love senior citizens here at the Zoo! In fact, there are several "senior" Zoo residents such as Uulu, the polar bear, and Elly, the black rhino you can see. Plus, February is sure to be an adventure for seniors with 29 days of fun! Throughout this month, seniors ages 65 and up get 2 for 1 admission to the Zoo!
And to add some "spice" to Senior Sweetheart Month (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/k8wbpc), on Valentine's Day, we encourage all seniors (and those who have an interest in animal mating behavior) to join us as we welcome Jason Jacobs, Director of Reid Park Zoo in Tuscon, Arizona, for an enlightening presentation on the sexual behaviors of animals. The presentation is free to attend.
Sunday, February 14 staring at 2:00 pm in the Lurie Education Center Great Hall

Coming up on March 5, the Girl Scouts will spend the evening and morning hours (when the Zoo is normally closed) investigating, observing and exploring animal behavior and conservation. Don’t miss this opportunity to have fun connecting with wildlife during an overnight adventure! An animal encounter, Zoo admission and parking are all included.
We still have room for more troops to join in the fun! If you are a Girl Scout troop leader or parent, be sure to check out all the programs we have to offer! Zoo Camp Registration begins on February 17
(https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/044bpc)
Did you know that all of our Zoo Camp classes are named after David Bowie songs? It's true! (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/gx5bpc) This Spring and Summer, your child can go “wild” while learning, playing and exploring at the San Francisco Zoo!
Register for Zoo Camp so your child can spend their school breaks outside exploring the Zoo in fun, interactive ways while learning about the natural world.
During Spring Camp we focus on the spring activities of the natural world as animals come out of hibernation, make nests, have babies and plants start to grow and flower. Spring Camp for PreK-5th grade is March 28 – April 1 and April 11-15.
Summer Camp offers three different themed weeks for campers to learn about animals and their habitats, while playing interactive games and creating fun art projects. Each weeks includes keeper talks, observation walks and lots of hands-on activities that keep kids enthralled. Summer Zoo Camp for children entering PreK-7th grade is weekly from June 6-August 19.
Registration for both Spring and Summer Camp starts on Wednesday February 17. Sign up (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/wp6bpc) early to guarantee a spot in our wildly popular program.
Registration Now Open for Early Childhood Classes through March!

Monarch Society: Join Now!
The first step toward wildlife conservation happens right here at the Zoo. It’s the inspiration and connection with wildlife that visitors and schoolchildren experience which makes a real difference. Through these animal encounters we continue to inspire public support for conservation – building the next generation of environmental stewards which will be so critical to our future. The Monarch Society (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4798h/o330mu/828bpc) was established to recognize and honor individuals who have included the San Francisco Zoological Society in their estate plans. As a caring supporter of the San Francisco Zoo, you’ve already demonstrated your dedication to making wildlife connections that inspire people to care for nature and take conservation action. A bequest to the Zoo enables our naturalistic animal settings, educational outreach and conservation programs to continue in perpetuity. What better gift can we give to the next generation than a passion for animals and commitment to caring for the natural world? For further information, contact Margaret Stangl at margarets at sfzoo.org.
