Celebrate our Condor with Cinco de Marzo

We’re throwing a fiesta (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w5mji/o330mu/0g29qc) for one of our newest arrivals, the Andean Condor (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w5mji/o330mu/g929qc), Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6!  Visitors are invited to play the 3 C's Condor Conservation Crossword game for a chance to win an Adopt-a-Condor prize.  Listen to a special keeper talk at 1:30 pm each day about the animal residents of Puente al Sur, highlighting what makes our 31-year-old female condor unique, other than her piercing red eyes and nearly 10-foot-wide wing span!

Wet Weather-Friendly Activities

If the weather forecast calls for rain, you can still enjoy a full day of fun at the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens!  There are a number of indoor exhibits and places for kids to burn off some energy while learning about animals, nature and the environment.  Some of the most popular rain proof areas include the South American Tropical Rainforest & Aviary, Insect Zoo and Leaping Lemur Cafe, but there are many more hidden treasures.  Click here (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w5mji/o330mu/cu49qc) for a full itinerary of wet weather-friendly activities to stay (relatively) dry and warm during your visit.

Spider-Man Weekend

Spider-Man is coming to the Zoo on Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13 to help commemorate National Save a Spider Day on March 14.  Learn more about the misunderstood arachnid during informational keeper talks at 11 am and 2 pm in the Insect Zoo.  Spider-Man will be crawling around meeting and greeting guests from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday, so have your camera ready to take a selfie with Spidey.

Sea Otter Soiree

The Zoo is partnering with Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary to present a Sea Otter Soirée: Why We Need Sea Otters More Than They Need Us.  It will be a sophisticated evening reception mingling science and art to highlight one of our coast's most charismatic species on Saturday, April 2 from 7-9:30 pm.  This intriguing and thought-provoking presentation by sea otter biologist Tim Tinker, Ph. D. of the U.S. Geological Survey demonstrates how sea otters can help restore the health of nearshore ecosystems, often in unexpected ways.  Click here (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w5mji/o330mu/8e69qc) for ticket information.

Register for Spring and Summer Camp

This Spring and Summer, your child can go “wild” while learning, playing and exploring at the San Francisco Zoo! Register for Zoo Camp (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w5mji/o330mu/ks89qc) so your child can spend their school breaks outside exploring the Zoo in fun, interactive ways while learning about the natural world.  Spring Camp for PreK-5th grade is March 28–April 1 and April 11-15.  Summer Camp for PreK-7th grade is weekly from June 6-August 19.

Zoo Teacher Assistant Volunteer Orientation

Do you know a teen 14-17 years old who misses going to Zoo Camp? How about a student hoping to gain skills over the summer teaching and working with children? Our Zoo Teacher Assistants aid Zoo Camp Instructors and Interns throughout the summer by playing games, doing crafts, teaching campers, and exploring the San Francisco Zoo! Join us for an informational orientation on Saturday, March 12 at 10 am in the Osher Great Hall inside the Lurie Education Center to learn more about this amazing program and how to apply (there is no need to register or RSVP). Questions? Email youth at sfzoo.org.
