Love Your SF Zoo!
Message from the Director

Dear SF Zoo Community,

June 30, 2017 marked the close of our 2016-2017 fiscal year, a successful period packed with many exciting developments. We introduced two Coquerel’s sifaka (http://sfzoo.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=4462f3ba52&e=7683a9aed3) into a brand new habitat, expanding the Madagascar Zone in the core of the Zoo. Our campaign to end illegal ivory trade was bolstered by the opening of Red Ivory (http://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=57f9f91821&e=7683a9aed3) , a temporary exhibit depicting the consequences of illegal trade. The recent Chinese ban on ivory gives us hope our efforts are paying off. In my nine years as Executive Director of SF Zoo, few things have been more inspiring than the opening of our temporary Coastal Conservation Center. For the first time, the Zoo is embracing its unique location along the coast and using it to educate students about marine life, climate change, and how to reduce ocean pollutants. We certainly could not accomplish these remarkable milestones without your support
(http://sfzoo.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=0854285ddb&e=7683a9aed3) , and for that, I sincerely thank you. Our work to connect, care and conserve is ongoing. We’re currently refurbishing a portion of the Pachyderm Building to expand our habitat space for Great Apes. The ground-breaking design will feature the Jim Ludwig Passage, an overhead trail for the animals named after our longest serving board member. Finally, get ready to welcome an orphaned black bear into the Zoo family! We’ll share more details as soon as they become available. Thank you again for your generous support of San Francisco Zoo & Gardens.

Sincerely,

Tanya M. Peterson
