Stern Grove Festival on July 2
The 80th season of the the Stern Grove Festival is in full swing! The Festival features
free Sunday concerts throughout the summer. Every year since 1938, the Stern Grove
Festival Association, in partnership with SF Rec and Park, presents an admission-free
performing arts series in Sigmund Stern Grove's beautiful outdoor amphitheater setting.
This Sunday at 2 p.m., soulful local singer, musician and songwriter Nicki Bluhm
 and The Gramblers blend rock, country, blues and folk into an original sound while
Oakland blues guitarist and singer Fantastic Negrito takes the stage on the heels
of his GRAMMY win for Best Contemporary Blues Album this year.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love in July
Journey into a forest full of faeries and lovers in We Players' adaptation of William
Shakespeare's all-time favorite, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The six-person version
of this classic tale is a dark and hilarious exploration of the complexities of 
love, our complicated human relationships, and the boundaries between reality and
imagination.

Urban Agriculture Resource Day at Alemany Farm on July 15
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alemany Farm (700 Alemany Boulevard)
Urban Agriculture Resource Days are a free seasonal service of the SF Rec and Park
Urban Agriculture Program. The resource days will have materials for all levels 
of urban agriculture (backyard gardener, community gardener, or urban farmer) to
 pick up supplies, get educational opportunities, and build on the existing informal
and formal networks of garden materials and programs. Materials on site are available
to any gardener in the city of San Francisco to help green and beautify the city.
Free compost, soil and mulch are always available for pick up. Bring your own container
to put materials in; drive up access will be available as well. There are limited

San Francisco's Newest Park: In Chan Kaajal Park
Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember David Chiu and Supervisor Hillary Ronen joined
community members and city officials for the grand opening of San Francisco's newest
park, In Chan Kaajal Park, on Friday, June 23. The new park at 17th and Folsom streets
was transformed from a parking lot into a community park space complete with a central
lawn area, outdoor stage area, children's play area, adult fitness equipment, a 
community garden and an interactive water feature in tribute to the Mission Creek
that once ran through the site. The park's name, In Chan Kaajal, is Mayan, meaning
"little town," and was selected after a robust community process.
Funding for this new $5.2 million park comes primarily from California Department
of Parks and Recreation Statewide Park and Community Revitalization Grant monies.

Light Art Installation at the Conservatory of Flowers through October!
Missed 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love and the lighting of the Conservatory
of Flowers for the Summer Solstice? We have you covered! The lighting at the Conservatory

San Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am Hoops Season Underway
Looking to fill that basketball void now that the NBA season is over? The 38th San
Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am season is underway, featuring free, high-quality hoops
 all summer long at Kezar Pavilion in Golden Gate Park.
>From the seasoned pro and college veterans looking to enhance their skills, to the
promising young athletes seeking to catch the eye of one of the many fans and scouts
in the stands, the San Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am Summer Basketball League provides
an excellent opportunity for male and female players, coaches, officials and attendees
to mix and have fun in a quality event during the summer months.
Games are held throughout the week, with men's games held Monday through Friday 
and women's games on the weekend. Admission is free. Kezar Pavilion is located at

Flower Piano Returns to the SF Botanical Garden this Summer
This summer, music, community, and nature join forces once again in the heart of
 the city during the 12-day, outdoor extravaganza known as Flower Piano. Now in 
its third year, Flower Piano once again transforms San Francisco Botanical Garden
(SFBG) into the city's own alfresco concert hall, and everyone is invited to play
and listen. From July 13 - 24 only, visitors will find twelve pianos tucked among
the many flower-filled gardens within SFBG's 55 acres and are encouraged to play
 what they like, from chopsticks to Tchaikovsky. On weekend days, event partner 
Sunset Piano has invited professional pianists and a whole host of other musicians
to perform throughout the Garden as well, and the public is welcome to pack a picnic
and enjoy the shows. Healthy Parks, Healthy People Trail Walk at Stow Lake on July 1
Start at the Stow Lake Boathouse (50 Stow Lake Drive) in Golden Gate Park at 10 
a.m. for some light stretching followed by an easy-going walk around one of the 
parks most popular areas. Meet by the picnic tables next to the dock. For a more
