1. April Spring Break woodworking camp still available

nedarz - 3/25/2017 1:11 pm

The Butterfly Joint in the Mission is full for next
week but still has spots for kids 5-12 years old during
4/10-14 and 4/17-21. We had a change of plans and
needed to release our Spring Break spot, but my 7-year
old had a great time in their December camp making an
inlaid nameplate and it's a great place for camps,
 afterschool classes, and birthday
 parties.http://thebutterflyjoint.com/camps/M-F
9:00am-3:00pm(Ages 5-12)The woodworkers will make their
very own wall-mounted coat/hat rack to put some sense
of organization into their lives. They will even get to
personalize it with our in-house laser cutter!Aftercare
is provided from 3-5pm for $15/hour ($12 per
hour/sibling) and can be paid for by CHECK or CASH ONLY
upon pickup at end of day.

This is (as is every discussion around the lottery)
fairly complicated, but of couse you're right that
parents wants their twins to go to the same school. The
problem is the disadvantage that it gives a family to
need to get two simultaneous spots in this lottery
process. The box on the application IS how you link the
twins. If you check the box, you're telling the system
that the two applications have to have the same
assignment. The system will place one, then attempt to
place the other at the same school. If there isn't a
spot (which, at least towards the end of the round,
there often isn't) then the first twin will lose that
spot and the system will attempt to start over.If you
don't check that box, the system should run both apps
totally independently of each other. Then, after the
first assignments are made, you can pick one of the
schools you got, and try to get the other kid in in
later rounds. The challenge of getting two simultaneous
spots is why even the SFUSD website says that if you
link your twins, you reduce the likelihood of getting a
spot at a school that you want. Most twin parents I know
chose not to link their apps. But so far every pair of
twins has gotten the same assignment. Yes, I agree that
#8 on your list isn't bad. But many twins got #39, #52,
or something not on their list at all. Those are the
families struggling to understand why their two kids
both independently got something so far down on their
list, when they should have been treated as two
 independent applications.

My twins were both assigned the same school, our area
attendance school, which was our 8th or 9th choice
(still a good school, but we wanted a Spanish immersion
program). I did not link them in the application. My
problem with this assignment is that there are two
local (non-immersion) schools that are closer, but they
are not my area attendance school!
