Children Age 14 and Younger Are FREE
Now Until January 31st!
We wanted to kick off 2018 with something big, that’s why we are excited to celebrate the New Year with a very special gift to the entire Bay Area. From now until January 31, we are pleased to be offering families FREE admission for all children age 14 and younger with adult paid admission. For many children, meeting a giraffe, bear or lion is the highlight of their year and we can’t think of a better way to start 2018 than with a Zoo visit.

Come See What's Blooming in the African Garden!

Our Pincushion (Leucospermum cordifolium) plant is just starting to bloom! With about 50 species of flowering plants in the family Proteaceae, this plant native to South Africa occupies a variety of habitats, including scrub, forest, and mountain slopes. The common name refers to the long, slender stigmas extending from the flower clusters like pins from a pincushion. You can find 'Veldt Fire' – as well as a large collection of Protea - throughout the Leanne B. Roberts African Savanna.

There's Still Time to Become a Docent
If you're looking for something meaningful to do with your time, consider becoming a docent. Attend the Docent Program Informational Event (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=31c1185c63&e=7683a9aed3) on Sunday, January 21 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Lurie Education Center at SF Zoo & Gardens. Anyone interested should have a love for animals and the ability to share information with others. We'll teach you everything else!

Our Commitment to Wellness
Thanks to a generous donation from The Bernard Osher Foundation, a large new window and animal training panel was recently installed at the Jones Family Gorilla Preserve. The new feature improves our staff’s ability to engage the gorillas in interactive and enriching “wellness” training. For example, as one of his wellness behaviors, our silverback Oscar Jonesy can participate in physical therapy exercises to help maintain flexibility as he grows older.

Early Childhood Classes
Welcome winter with your toddler in an Early Childhood class!  Specially designed for children 18 months – 4 years, little ones are encouraged to get loud like lions, leap like lemurs, and frolick like red pandas.
