Holiday Tree Lighting at McLaren Lodge on December 6
Join us for the 89th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at McLaren Lodge (501 Stanyan 
Street) in Golden Gate Park on Thursday, December 6, from 4-8 p.m. This FREE family-friendly
event will feature toboggan rides, snow play area, carnival rides, live entertainment,
cookie decorating, visits with Santa and more! There will also be free admission
 to the Conservatory of Flowers, which will feature a holiday light show!
In addition, because it's the season of giving, the San Francisco Police Department
is hosting a toy drive at the event. All are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped

William Hammond Hall Awards Celebrate Decade of Excellence
The men and women whose gardening skills have made San Francisco's parks among the
nation's best were honored last week at the 10th Annual William Hammond Hall Awards!
In partnership with the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local
261, Rec and Park hosted the event at McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park. The awards
recognize the top gardening and horticulture professionals. The award itself is 
named for William Hammond Hall, a civil engineer and a visionary who designed Golden
Gate Park and became the city's first park superintendent in the 1870s. Today, the
City's gardeners carry on Hall's legacy, implementing his vision of gardens and 
greenways across San Francisco. Congratulations to our winners and thank you for

London Breed Joins the Mayors for Parks Coalition
Today, the City Parks Alliance welcomed San Francisco Mayor London Breed to the 
Mayors for Parks Coalition! She joins an extensive list of mayors who are champions
for parks and open spaces that support the preservation of the Land and Water Conservation
Fund (LWCF). From District 5 Supervisor to the Mayor's Office, Mayor Breed has been

Rec Centers Open on November 19
This Monday, November 19, we will open many of our recreation sites to accommodate
students who are off for Thanksgiving week to give kids a safe and fun place to 
play. These sites will be open for their normal hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.

SFYBL Registration Begins on November 17
San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL) individual registration begins this 
Saturday, November 17 at 10 a.m. The league, a collaboration between Rec and Park
and the San Francisco Fire Department's Flame Program, serves boys and girls ages
4 to 14 in six age-based divisions with the season beginning in March of 2019. Fees
cover coaches, games, practices and uniforms. Golden Gate Heights Playground Meeting
Join us for the first planning workshop to guide future improvements at Golden Gate
