This weekend, you’re invited to celebrate 40 years of our Insect Zoo, truly one of the most mesmerizing places in our Youth Exploration Zone! During our special BUG-iversary, we’ll have information tables, crafts and activities, insect meet and greets and more! At the BUG-iversary you will also get the chance to win free tickets to the Monster Jam Triple Threat Tour. And as a very special treat on Saturday, we will commemorate this special occasion with cake at 1:30 p.m. while it lasts!

Walt Disney’s True-Life Adventures (1948–60) documentary series educated a generation of viewers on the unique mannerisms of different animals and the wonders of our natural world. In the spirit of the True-Life Adventures—and in celebration of both the museum’s 10th Anniversary and the 90th Anniversary of the San Francisco Zoo—our two institutions have partnered for a unique experience. In this workshop, learn about the natural world and its inhabitants as you practice drawing zoo animals from live reference. Study the proportion, movement, texture, and gesture-drawing techniques used to gain a sense of an animal’s anatomy while breathing life into your sketches on September 21. Zoo Crew Orientation - August 17

Do you know a budding conservationist between the ages of 11 and 14? Come to our orientation (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=57fc1ca3bc&e=7683a9aed3) on August 17th to learn how to join our Zoo Crew! Crew members work hands-on with rangers, biologists, and horticulturists at Lake Merced, Mountain Lake, and the San Francisco Zoo to restore local habitat, learn about our very own wild places and wild things, and get dirty! Join us at 10:00am in the Lurie Education Center to learn all about the program and how to apply. The orientation is free to attend and does not require admission or RSVP. Please note that we encourage prospective volunteers and a parent/guardian to attend together, and that parking is not included. Questions?
