Potrero Hill Recreation Center Celebration on September 4

Join us to celebrate the completion of improvements at Potrero Hill Recreation Center
(801 Arkansas Street) next Wednesday, September 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. Improvements
to the site include the renovation of the natural turf ballfields, the resurfacing
of the tennis and basketball courts, improvements to the lower level dog play area
and more. The renovation was funded by the 2012 Neighborhood Parks Bond. For more

Chase Center Block Party on September 7
Watch the US Open Women's Finals on the giant screen at the new Chase Center! JP
 Morgan Chase will host the 2nd Annual US Open Watch Party, which will benefit the
Campaign for Golden Gate Park Tennis Center (rendering above.) The watch party will
take place on Saturday, September 7 from noon to 4 p.m. at the brand new Chase Center
(1 Warriors Way and 3rd Street.) This free, live viewing of the US Open Women's 
Finals is part of the Chase Block Party, a week-long celebration of the new Chase

State Conservation Grants to Benefit Kids, Seniors, Snakes
Local children, seniors and, yes, snakes will be among the beneficiaries of state
conservation grants totaling more than $400,000, the San Francisco Recreation and
Park Department announced this past week. SF Rec and Park's McLaren Park Visitacion
Avenue Corridor Trail and Sharp Park Garter Snake Habitat Restoration were among
 the 26 park projects across the state recently awarded $4.1 million in California
Habitat Conservation Fund grants. The competitive program, funded by the California
Wildlife Protection Act of 1990, helps local agencies protect, restore, and enhance
wildlife habitat to maintain California's quality of life. For more information,

Richmond Rec Center Closed August 19 to 30
We began work on the Richmond Recreation Center last week to replace the fire sprinkler
heads throughout the facility. It will remain closed through this Friday, August
 30. Nearby recreation centers include Hamilton (1900 Geary Boulevard), Moscone 
(1800 Chesnut Street) and Sunset (2201 Lawton Street.)

Mission Rec Girls Basketball Tryouts
Our Mission Recreation Center (MRC) Rebels girls basketball program will be holding
tryouts for its upcoming Fall/Winter 2019-20 seasons! Tryouts will take place TONIGHT,
August 28; Thursday, August 29; and Wednesday, September 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m
 at Mission Recreation Center (2450 Harrison Street.) The MRC Rebels girls basketball
program is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program offered by our department for
 4th to 8th graders over the past 30 years, with teams competing in AAU tournaments

Due South Concert Series at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater on September 7

YSP Kickoff Series on August 30
Join us for kickoff events in August and September for our Youth Stewardship Program
(YSP.) This program engages youth from 2nd to 12th grade in environmental education
and service-learning field trips in parks and open spaces citywide. Last year, our
YSP program engaged 2,421 students through 68 schools and organizations. Our first
event will be this Friday, August 30 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the EcoCenter in

American History Tour on September 1
Join San Francisco City Guides for its historical tours of Golden Gate Park this
 September, including the American History tour this Sunday, September 1 beginning
at 1 p.m. with the meeting spot at the Conservatory of Flowers. On this tour are
 statues, plaques, monuments and trees in Golden Gate Park that commemorate events
in American history. This two hour walk takes you to both familiar sites and hidden
gems. Trails Corps Workday on September 7
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Urban Trails Program invites 
you to join us for the second trail corps volunteer work party on Saturday, September
7 from 9 a.m. to noon. It will take place in Glen Canyon Park at the Glenridge Cooperative
Nursery on Alms Road within the park. Gain valuable experience in the basics of

GGP Nursery Workday on September 7
Join our Natural Resource Division on Saturday, September 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m at the Golden Gate Park Nursery in for a fun morning of native plant propagation.

Learn how to grow plants from locally collected wild seeds, spores and cuttings.
 Become familiar with the plant's life cycle from seedling to flowering and fruit-bearing.
The plants you propagate will be planted this winter in our parks, natural areas
 and wildlife habitats. Volunteers must be 12 years or older. To register, email

What's Out There Weekend September 13
The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) is bringing What's Out There Weekend to
 the San Francisco Bay Area from September 13 to 15,  featuring free, expert-led
 tours of the area's parks, gardens, landscapes and open spaces.  These tours enable
people to discover the hidden design history of places they may pass every day. 
Expert guides provide rich stories, personal anecdotes, and keen observations about

Party for the Parks on September 14
Join the San Francisco Parks Alliance for its annual Party for the Parks. This year's
party will take place at Civic Center Plaza on Saturday, September 14 from 6 to 
11 p.m. with proceeds supporting the Let'sPlaySF! initiative, a partnership between
the SF Parks Alliance and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department to renovate
13 playgrounds across the city, benefiting more than 20,000 children. The event

Camp Mather Fundraiser on September 14
