90 Years of Hanging Out

As part of its 90th Anniversary celebrations, San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is thrilled to welcome back the highly endangered — but very charismatic — orangutan species.  A young male and female have joined the SF Zoo family, and this weekend, you can watch them in their new aerial passages — where they can watch you, too!

To celebrate dads this weekend, join us for a unique BikeAbout (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=c2acdc865c&e=7683a9aed3) , a special Little Learner (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=1385c1e90c&e=7683a9aed3) Dino Dads class OR enter to win a perfect summer hang out for your child, a spot in one of our Little Learners (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=853b8573d4&e=7683a9aed3) (18 months – 3 ½ year olds + 1 adult)  or Animal Adventures (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=9e390ce330&e=7683a9aed3) (3 – 5 year olds + 1 adult)  classes.  These year-round classes, filled with music, crafts, games, and an education animal visitor, are an exciting way to jump, hop, and skip through the animal kingdom. To enter, please email toddlers at sfzoo.org (mailto:toddlers at sfzoo.org)  with your name, your child’s age, and email address. Names will be compiled and winners drawn each week during the month of June.

* Nature Trail Now Open! Stroll along Nature Trail and interact with more than a dozen animals up close! Youth volunteers staff each animal station to deliver fun facts and conservation stories.11:00 am - 3:30 pm daily.
* Talk on the Wild Side Returns! Learn from teen volunteers as they utilize biofacts carts at animal exhibits daily around the Zoo.
* Life on the Farm.  Don’t miss the special Life on the Farm talk in front of the Insect Zoo Thursday-Monday at 3:15! You have the chance to meet our farm animals like kune-kune pig, miniature horses and more!

World Giraffe Weekend - June 22-23

In honor of World Giraffe Day (June 21), an annual event to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day of the year, join us as we celebrate our herd and raise awareness about the challenges giraffe face. World Giraffe Day began in 2014 to start the conversation about giraffe conservation and the importance of protecting one of the most magnificent and well-known animals on earth.  With only approximately 111,000 giraffe remaining in the wild, momentum is building, but we must continue to spread the important conservation message of this Vulnerable species. Join us for special giraffe talks and feedings, learn about giraffes and participate in fun activities.  Help support giraffes by donating to giraffe conservation organizations.
Meet Gombus, newest addition to our chimp troop!

Back in November, the first construction phase of GAP opened, with our three senior chimps, Cobby, Minnie and Maggie settling into their new indoor day room and outdoor overhead passageway. Earlier this year, a new male joined the troop – 33-year-old male Gombus (pictured here) – the first new member since the passing of Tallulah in 2013, was successfully introduced to the long-time, tight-knit group. We invite you to come out this weekend to see our chimp troop in their expanded habitat and our new orangutans in the Orangutan Passage for limited viewing!
