SF Closes GGP's JFK Drive & McLaren Park's Shelley Drive to Vehicles
Pedestrians and cyclists are enjoying a more expansive area to exercise while social
distancing this week, thanks to the closures of sections of
John F. Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park and John F. Shelley Drive in John McLaren
Park. Mayor London Breed announced this week that these areas would be closed to
 vehicles 24 hours per day throughout the duration of San Francisco's Stay Home 
Order, which has been extended to Sunday, May 31. The street closures are intended
to ensure there is enough space for people who choose to exercise in Golden Gate
 Park and McLaren Park to maintain required physical distancing.
Effective as of Tuesday, April 28, JFK Drive is closed to vehicular traffic from
 Kezar Drive to Transverse Drive. This street closure is the same as the regular
 Sunday street closure in Golden Gate Park. Shelley Drive from the western cross
 street of Mansell and Shelley to Cambridge and Shelley in McLaren Park is closed
to vehicular traffic as well. The gates at Cambridge and Mansell Streets are locked,
closing the Shelley Drive loop to vehicles.
While the street closures are intended to increase space for people to get outside,
the Recreation and Park Department and Department of Public Health remind the public
that park users must practice social distancing. People over 60 years of age and/or
people who have underlying health conditions and people who are sick should not 
leave their home. The concert provides a virtual exploration of Golden Gate Park and incorporates 
musical performances and tributes by notable Bay Area musicians including Michael

concerts, festivals and events hosted in the park over the years.
The next concerts will take place on Tuesday, May 5 at noon and Saturday, May 9 
at 10 a.m. Golden Gate Park, An A to Z Adventure children's book author Marta Lindsey
will host the two livestream concerts that feature special musical guests, book 
readings, trivia games and art for kids and families to enjoy. The book's illustrator
Michael Wertz, who produced Golden Gate Park's 150th anniversary children's theme
song, will also unveil a new song "B is Bison" during the concerts. The concerts
 coincides with the official release of Marta's book with a portion of the sale 
of each book supporting the park. Randall Museum's Bug Month
The Randall Museum's popular annual Bug Day, which historically has taken place 
the first Saturday after Earth Day, has been expanded to Bug Month during May, and
is going online. A fixture in the Randall community for 20 years, Bug Day has been

Emergency Childcare for Healthcare Workers, First Responders and Disaster Service
Workers
We're offering free emergency care at 25 sites citywide for the children of health
workers, first responders and other essential city workers on the front lines of
 the fight against COVID-19. Rec and Park staff provides a variety of indoor and
 outdoor activities for kids in grades K-8, including exercise, art and STEM projects.
The Department of Children, Youth and their Families (DCYF) has arranged for three
meals a day for all participants. Other city agencies, including the Department 
of Emergency Management (DEM), the Department of Human Resources (DHR), the Public
Library, and the Office of Early Care and Education (OECE), have played integral
 roles in the rollout of the program.
