On February 15, we are excited to welcome Rodney Jackson, PhD, Founder of Snow Leopard Conservancy (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=ea0ada87e9&e=7683a9aed3) and Ashleigh Lutz-Nelson, Assistant Curator of Carnivores at SF Zoo, to discuss our new partnership focusing on new approaches in conserving snow leopards. One of these ways is a new partnership between the Snow Leopard Conservancy, San Francisco Zoological Society and San Francisco-based nonprofit organization, International Veterinary Outreach, which is working with local herders in high conflict areas to improve livestock health and husbandry through training to reduce the herder retaliation on snow leopards for depredation losses. We are excited to announce that the winning name for our new 2-year-old male koala is “Cobar Wollemi!” Cobar translates to “burnt earth” in an Aboriginal language, and signifies the important reason why we hosted this contest. “Wollemi” is the name of the ancient pine trees, once thought extinct, that were heroically saved from the bushfires. Thanks to your incredible support, we are happy to share that we raised $15,000 to benefit Australian bushfire wildlife relief during the month of January.
