2020 Health and Recovery Bond Officially on November Ballot
On July 21, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the 2020 Health
and Recovery Bond proposal for $487.5 million. The proposal will now be submitted
for the November 2020 ballot.
The 2020 Health and Recovery Bond will help address the upcoming needs of San Francisco's
park system with $239 million, including for projects at India Basin, Gene Friend
Recreation Center, Herz Playground Recreation Center, Buchanan Street Mall, and
Japantown Peace Plaza. Amendments to the initial bond proposal include improvements
at Portsmouth Square, Jackson Park, South Sunset Playground, and Richmond Senior

Have you Herd? New Bison Cams Let Viewers Observe Golden Gate Park's Shaggy Behemoths
from Home
For the first time, fans of Golden Gate Park's resident bison can connect with the
beloved beasts from home, thanks to two live webcams in their paddock.
The bison cams offer a rare opportunity to observe the all-female herd as five longtime
residents-Betsy, Bailey, Bellatrix, Buttercup, and Bambi-get to know their five
young roommates, 1-year-olds acquired in March in honor of Golden Gate Park's 150th
anniversary.
The bison cams can be viewed on Golden Gate Park's 150th anniversary website with
their own webpage GoldenGatePark150.com/bison [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001TGIFe7A58-0tMMJbv7EFYT9tqjaElchJS_kFXY0KOJsF7KvYl5koCtef0rhdFD1OGDbh-pHcvvIneJa_5etZ31FSnvu37fsNQhr583OwE_KLIc7-DK5DFR3GSStEiOLPBcb9aDDdbHV_ckarZe8Vz5t8BMYHbWIQFRhxsK4pktpTsrMCihixK1jwKh4XY56A&c=0TDcDLUffnGrPHIF51NvGOTkUWG4JeZVHk4RpxqdpHt3me62kHfehQ==&ch=WS6krqcC2PZXrQDGqsWwbodfHuyRW3GQyPhDq1_8i8Yn_qtdU8xyRQ==].

Japanese Tea Garden Reopens
The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park officially re-opened its doors to the
public on Wednesday, July 22 with modifications to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Tea Garden, the oldest public Japanese garden in the U.S., closed March 17 due
to the shelter in place order. To re-open safely, the Tea Garden will limit guests
to 100 and set up one-way pathways to avoid congestion. Bathrooms and certain high-touch
areas such as steep bridges will remain closed and masks are required for everyone.
Staff members will monitor queues, entrances and exits to prevent crowding and ensure
social distancing. People are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online here

SF Rec and Park Opens New Park in Rincon Hill
Guy Place Mini Park, a new and peaceful open space amid the skyscrapers of Rincon
Hill, is now open! Located on Guy Place near the approach to the Bay Bridge and
steps from the Transbay Transit Center, the $4.5 million project puts the green
oasis at the heart of San Francisco's fastest growing neighborhood.
In addition to an array of native plants and new dog relief area, the park includes
"Geologic Ghost," a waterjet-cut steel fence designed by artist Adriane Colburn.
Colburn was inspired by both the geology and history of Rincon Hill, which was
partially removed in the late 1800s to accommodate the 2nd Street corridor. Colburn
used historic maps to reconstruct the topography of the hill, then created a 3-D
model to generate the structure of the fence. Its designs were created with attributes
of graywacke, the most common rock in the area. For more information, click here

Challenge Ropes Course Breaks Ground in McLaren Park
Construction on a high ropes challenge course teaching youth leadership and character
development in John McLaren Park kicked off this week! A project of SF Rec and Parks
and Outward Bound California (OBCA), the ropes course will be located at the park's
Wilde Overlook Tower area near the intersection of Mansell Street and Visitacion
Avenue. The course is estimated to be completed by the end of October. Health officials
will decide when the public can safely access the programming.
The course will serve both public and educational community group recreation for
youth and adults. Schools and non-profit groups serving students from low income
communities and under-resourced public schools will receive up to 75 percent scholarship
for a day on the course, with students themselves attending free of charge. One
Saturday per month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be reserved for free community programs
led by highly trained Outward Bound educators. Participants will sign up online
to reserve their spots.

and living columns of native California grapevines. Eight new river birch and dogwood
trees grace the site and a sidewalk bulb-out offers a pet fountain and relief area.
