San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is thrilled to welcome you back and once again provide our Bay Area community a safe place to explore the outdoors and experience wildlife! We thank those of you who visited us during our first week of a “new” normal — you were so respectful of our safety protocols!  If you plan to visit us soon, or even if this is your second visit, we thought it important to highlight our safety protocols (and lessons learned!):

Why Online Reservations?
Some of you have asked whether you really need to make an online reservation.  Currently, this is the safest and most efficient way to avoid line congestion during ticket collection. Please be courteous to other members and only make a reservation on the date you plan to visit. If you can’t make your reservation, please cancel, so others may enjoy our park, too! Why the Red Lines and Barriers?
You’ll notice “red lines" and "stanchions" at some viewing areas in an effort to avoid multiple people touching our glass windows or becoming too close to our more vulnerable animals. For your and others' safety, please respect these barriers.

How do you see popular animals like our Big Cats and Hippo?
You’ll notice some changes at “Cat Kingdom” so that you can see these majestic ambassadors more safely. We have created a staggered entry next to our “Otter Exhibit.” After watching Skipper and Trent frolic, a limited number of guests will then follow a path to see our Sumatran tigers, African lions, endangered Black rhino and our charismatic hippo!

Any other changes at popular animal habitats?
Many of you enjoy our smaller animal habitats most!  At some of these, you’ll notice paw prints within a circle of words that say: “One Group per Circle." Please stay with your self-selected “pod” and social distance from other pods! At this time, all indoor areas remain closed, but take-out food and beverage service is available for purchase!

Any updates to our Face Covering Policy?
For your safety, face coverings are required for everyone at entry, except children ages 2 and under. Any guest who requests a face covering exemption must show proof from a healthcare provider. (We ask these guests to wear a Zoo wristband or other identifiers.) As reminder, we do sell “zoo” face coverings at our retail pop-up!
