Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks Gilman Playground Reopening Celebration on July 30 Join the Giants Community Fund, Good Tidings Foundation, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and Giants Shortstop Brandon Crawford for a special community celebration to mark the reopening of Gilman Playground (903 Gilman Avenue), which underwent a renovation that repaired and upgraded the ballfield, installed new irrigation, repaved the entry plaza and pathways near the ballfield, and installed new dugout fencing and benches. The event will take place on Friday, July 30 from noon to 1 p.m. and will feature a special ceremony, lunch, baseball and more! Thank you to the Giants Community Fund for supporting this project. Giants Community Fund San Francisco's Community Hubs Initiative Case Study San Francisco’s efforts to support children, youth and families through the COVID-19 pandemic is the focus of a new case study, Showing Up While Everything Is Shutting Down: A Story of Cooperation in San Francisco, released by the San Francisco Education Fund and written by David Phillips and Carolyn Gramstorff. The study explores the City’s Community Hubs Initiative, particularly the local context that made this unconventional, cross-sector partnership possible. Additionally, the study examines the barriers the Initiative had to overcome. Pulling testimonies and lessons from a diverse group of stakeholders, the study, which was conducted over more than a year, offers a model for how communities might rethink the role of governments, nonprofits, and educational institutions to truly meet the needs of the families at their center, in crisis and beyond. SF Merionettes Get Vaccinated! The Time is Now! with Chris-Live Over the last month, all Bay Area counties have seen at least a doubling of new COVID-19 cases, causing concern that unvaccinated people are more at risk than ever. Our Video of the Week comes courtesy of SFGovTV, the San Francisco Department of Public Health and artist Chris-Live with a song to remind you that the time is now for you to protect your community by getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccines continue to be by far the best way for us to manage this pandemic. With vaccines, deaths and severe illness resulting from COVID-19 are preventable. The vast majority of individuals who end up hospitalized and the overwhelming majority dying from COVID-19 are those who are not vaccinated.
