Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements Voters Ensure JFK Promenade is Here to Stay Voters have affirmed what our extensive outreach has shown—San Franciscans want a safe, permanent Promenade in Golden Gate Park. What was once a dangerous street has been transformed into a place for recreation, art, music, and human connection. The feedback from this long public process has been invaluable. The result is a more inclusive Golden Gate Park: additional blue zone parking, more frequent shuttles, a better connection to public transit, more pickup and drop-off options, and a new adaptive bike program. Rec and Park and SFMTA will continue to improve this dynamic space—making it even more accessible, welcoming and fun for everyone. We are also heartened that the Great Highway will remain open for safe recreation on weekends and holidays, which will allow us to conduct a pilot study to consider the road’s future through the lens of climate adaptation. This vote also ensures that the Ocean Beach Master Plan to protect the city’s water treatment infrastructure remains in place. Afterwards, some of the families headed over to SFMTA’s Adaptive Transportation Day at the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse to explore accessible mobility options, with three kids riding a bike for the first time! Thank you to everyone that made this fun day possible, and learn more about our Therapeutic Recreation program at the link below.
