Thank You, Cruise!

Huge thanks to Cruise (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=1823171542&e=7683a9aed3) , a self-driving car service, for sponsoring our most recent SF Resident Free Day. During the Free Day, they displayed two vehicles that showcase the similarities between Cruise cars' "super senses" and the extraordinary sensory capacities of some of our Zoo animals. You can see examples of these "super senses" on our Instagram (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=8fc1e8166b&e=7683a9aed3) page.
See Our Tiger Salamander in the CA Conservation Corridor
Did you know that we just moved a tiger into the California Conservation Corridor? Tiger salamander, that is! These large amphibians can grow up to 13 inches in length and can be found in wetlands throughout North America. Adults live almost exclusively on land, entering the water only to breed. Typically returning to its birthplace, its eggs are laid in clusters and attached to underwater vegetation. The larvae of the tiger salamander live in the water, developing limbs shortly after hatching. Dense populations of larvae can trigger cannibalism. The rate at which larvae metamorphose into adults is dependent on temperature, food level and numbers of other salamanders or competitors. Tiger salamander populations are threatened by loss of habitat and accumulation of acid in breeding grounds. Come and visit our tiger salamander in the California Conservation Corridor!
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Last week, our gorillas enjoyed a variety of yummy treats in honor of Day of the Dead, like frozen juice cakes with sugar skulls made from banana and topped with edible marigolds. Caretakers even made Calabaza en Tacha, a traditional Mexican dessert of cooked, seasoned pumpkin drizzled with honey and hibiscus flavored water to symbolize Agua de Jamaica. Paper monarchs and marigolds decorated the entire habitat. The gorillas’ training window was turned into an ofrenda and featured photos from zoo staff to honor beloved animals who have passed. Thank you so much to our team for such a thoughtful celebration. Check out the video here (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=9eba7352f5&e=7683a9aed3) .
