Welcome Prairie Dog Pups!

Spring is in the air and we are thrilled to announce the arrival of nine prairie pups! Prairie pups emerge from their burrows between 4-6 weeks of age so we estimate they are about 5-weeks-old. Black-tailed prairie dogs are known as a keystone species and play an important role in prairie ecology. More than 165 species of animals and insects depend on them for survival. They are a critical food source for many mammal and bird species, and the constant burrowing activity of prairie dogs works to loosen the soil, unearthing insects that birds eat. Make sure to stop by the Exploration Zone to see the adorable pups!
Celebrate Earth Day at Earth Fest

Every day is a reason to celebrate Earth Day, but we are excited to host a special Earth Fest (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=1f49d39c8e&e=7683a9aed3) celebration on April 22nd! Come and enjoy a variety of activities and meet with some of our partners to learn ways you can make an impact on our planet. The event will run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Entry Village. Free for members!
ZooFest Silent Auction is Live

Can’t make it to ZooFest 2023?  You can still participate in our silent auction online. New Dates for Zen at the Zoo

We had an overwhelming response to our "Zen at the Zoo" yoga classes and we're excited to announce that we have added more dates. Join us May 28, June 11, August 20 and September 17. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

This past weekend, we celebrated Udo's third birthday (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=c1800c10dc&e=7683a9aed3) ! Udo, a pygmy hippo, arrived to SF Zoo last year and has settled in well to his new home. Unlike the Nile river hippo, pygmy hippos have different adaptations for a more terrestrial life. They are primarily active in the cooler hours of the night, foraging on land and spend the majority of the heat of the day in the water or sleeping in burrows or wallows adjacent to a water source. We are grateful to Udo for being a wonderful ambassador for his wild counterparts!
