The Insect Zoo team has been busy releasing female swallowtails (Battus philenor) into our gardens!  Before they were butterflies, these chrysalids were pupating since June 2023, and started emerging at the end of January. The Zoo staff finds eggs in the onsite gardens in April and then raise the caterpillars in the Insect Zoo until they pupate. They then release them the next spring when they emerge as butterflies.  Being pollinators, they have a positive impact on their environment and are also beautiful to watch flying around the gardens at the Zoo.  Come see them for yourself and visit our Insect Zoo for more fascinating springtime stories!
Our wolverine Harrison celebrates his 17th Birthday with some special animal enrichment, which gives him a creative outlet for physical activity and mental exercise. Happy Birthday, Harrison!  You can find our wolverines near the Pachyderm Building, across from Puente al Sur.

Join us for an extra-special BikeAbout on Mother’s Day and pedal your way through the Zoo before opening hours during a 60-minute riding tour! Tickets include a continental breakfast served immediately following the event. During this program, bike riders will learn what maternal care looks like throughout the animal kingdom.
