Your weekly scoop on San Francisco parks
### Highlights, News & Announcements
### San Francisco Service Day on July 12
July is
National Park and Recreation Month (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/80ouau)! This year's theme is Build Together, Play Together and what better way to build than with San Francisco Service Day.
Organized by the Leadership San Francisco Class of 2025 and supported by the
Civic Joy Fund (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/otpuau)
and
Union Square Alliance (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/4lquau), it takes place Saturday, July 12. Volunteers will support more than 30 local nonprofits through hands-on service projects across the city, including in our parks such as the Oak Woodlands and Strawberry Hill in Golden Gate Park, as well as Duboce Park, the Legion of Honor, and Alemany Farm.
The day wraps up with a free block party from 3 to 5 p.m. next to Union Square on Maiden Lane, featuring a DJ, refreshments for volunteers and opportunities to connect with fellow participants and local leaders. For more information, and to sign up, click the link below.

### Micro Litter Cleanup Day at Dolores Park on July 12, Win Outside Lands Tickets
Join
LoveDolores (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/06ruau)
for its annual Micro Litter Cleanup Day! The volunteer event will take place on Saturday, July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at
Dolores Park (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/gzsuau)
(Dolores and 18th streets) with the goal of removing micro-litter (bottle caps, cigarette butts, small plastic, etc.) from the grass prior to the annual aeration of the fields. Aeration--using machines to drill holes in the field--allows water and nutrients to reach deep into the roots and keep the grass we love to picnic on healthy and green year-round.
Participants who volunteer for at least one hour during the cleanup day will be eligible to enter a raffle to win a pair of one-day Outside Lands tickets. Volunteers must sign in upon arrival at the park and sign out after collecting litter to qualify. The raffle will take place on Saturday, July 12 at 2:45 p.m. For more information and to sign up, click the link below.

### TPC Harding Park 100th Anniversary Celebration on July 18
As
TPC Harding Park (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/ckuuau)
celebrates its 100th anniversary, the club has announced a centennial celebration for July 18, along with activations at the course throughout the year.
Named after U.S. President Warren Harding, an avid golfer, Harding Park Golf Course opened on July 18, 1925, along the shores of Lake Merced, California, in San Francisco's southwest corner. The only city-owned public course in the PGA TOUR's
TPC Network (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/scvuau), TPC Harding Park features 27 holes of championship golf and has a rich and storied history, including hosting the 2020 PGA Championship, won by Collin Morikawa, as well as the 2009 Presidents Cup, where the United States Team beat the International Team, 19.5 to 14.5.
TPC Harding Park is part of Rec and Park's legacy of accessible, high-quality public recreation. As a municipal facility, it serves both the local community and visitors from around the world. Through decades of memorable moments, Harding Park has crowned some of golf's greatest champions, including legends like Billy Casper, Byron Nelson, Gary Player, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
At the centennial celebration on July 18, the first 200 golfers will receive a limited-edition centennial print by artist Lee Wybranski and a custom centennial challenge coin made from a storm-fallen cypress tree from Harding Park. All golfers playing that day will automatically be entered into 'closest to the pin' contests on each par-3 hole, with prizes awarded to the winners.
Golfers can book their tee time for July 18 at this link (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/84vuau).

# Sunset Dunes Rolls Out New Skate Features
Skaters on San Francisco's west side now have a place to roll and grind as the city's latest coastal park,
Sunset Dunes (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/o13uau), unveiled brand-new skate elements last month.
The skate area, located along Sunset Dunes at Sloat Boulevard, was designed for skaters of all skill levels and includes a bank, quarter pipe, island feature, and several creatively designed elements crafted from upcycled granite--blending sustainability with recreation. The additions mark a milestone in the transformation of this coastal site into an active, engaging community space offering fun activities for people of all ages.
Since its opening in mid-April, Sunset Dunes has become one of the city's most popular parks. Visitors at the new park can now enjoy a variety of activities, including interactive art installations, expanded seating for community events and live music, a Nature Exploration Area for kids, and a bike pump track and skills course.
The skate features, part of an $80,000 project at Sunset Dunes, are located next to the existing bike pump track and bike skills course, which was completed in April of this year. The project also includes improvements at the Sloat gateway. The skate elements are interim improvements, designed to be relocated or removed as necessary as the park continues to evolve. The features were developed in collaboration with local skate leaders, including Ashley Rehfield and Chris Long, both San Francisco skate advocates.
The skate features were fabricated by Kanfoush Custom Concrete. To celebrate the project's completion, Rec and Park hosted a Skate and Play Day last month, where skaters of all ages and skill levels enjoyed an afternoon of skating, music, and local skate culture. ### Coyote Pupping Season in our Parks
As we hit the dog days of summer, it means that we're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den.
To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors (https://t.e2ma.net/click/w3m5vj/wfcl20hc/8cavau), please take the following precautions:
* Never feed coyotes or any wildlife
* Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area
* Only admire coyotes from a distance
If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises.
If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at noopener noreferrer (mailto:acc at sfgov.org).
For more information, visit ACC's coyote page at the link below.
