K2C Hits a New Milestone In our 10th year of operations, we hit a new milestone – In less than one year, students and families saved $1 million! Even with the financial crisis, students and families saved more in ten months than they did the previous school year. Awesome job savers! Important Links Check Balance Forgot Account #? But not being able to travel doesn’t mean you can’t visit colleges virtually! We will be highlighting select colleges each week throughout the summer beginning June 12th on Facebook. Students can follow directions to virtual tour listed schools, answer questions, and win prizes. Click here to our Facebook! Monthly Spotlight A Present For The Future Creative moms Leena and Jennifer celebrated their children’s friend’s birthdays with college savings. They decided to make deposits into the birthday child’s K2C account. “I much prefer giving this as a gift than a toy that will hold attention for a night and fester forever in landfill. I know a lot of parents who feel the same way...” It's easy to do. Go to the K2C account look up website and enter the birthday child's first and last name; date of birth; and zip code to get his/her K2C account number. Then use that number to make a deposit online with your bank’s bill pay function or in person at any Citibank branch. Previously, for Leena’s son's birthday, she worked with us in making a deposit into all her classmates’ accounts. This replaced cupcakes and goody bags and helped build funds for college. An awesome way to show our students we are invested in their future! Way to go K2C Moms! Jennifer's daughter We want to spotlight you and your story! Email us at k2c at sfgov.org with the subject "Saver Story" to tell us why you save, how you save, when you started saving, or anything else about you or your child's participation in K2C. The K2C Equity Incentive We received funding for an Equity Incentive pilot to help those most in need. In support of SFUSD’s identified nine targeted under-served elementary schools, known as PITCH schools, we will be offering incentives up to an additional $450 to all first graders at these schools. With the initial $50 opening deposit, these students will have at least $500 showing them that San Francisco believes in their future of post-secondary education! Ask a Student! Anyone can encourage a child's aspirations. We’ll provide a suggested question each month that you can ask students you know! This Month's Question: What about college excites you the most? Question of the Month What is Financial Aid Financial aid is money that can help you pay for college. Some aid needs to be paid back (loans) or earned (work study), and some aid is a gift (grants or scholarships). There are four main sources of aid: federal government, state government, colleges and universities, and private organizations. K2C incentives are a newer form of gift aid. Wishing You a Happy Summer! Even with all the changes happening with Coronavirus, from students learning virtually to social distancing, we hope all of you can still enjoy this summer the best you can. Even if it means doing simple activities like, reading a book outside under the sun or taking a walk around your neighborhood. Please take care of yourself and your well-being and remember we are all in this together.
